The staff was ok to some extent, the night shift nurses were wonderful, yet the day shift had a language problem with me, I speak only english, many people came into my room without idenification and I would not respond to them until they identified themselves. I was concerned with who needed what information for what reason. Otherwise, it was a good stay.

I like going to St.Lukes-Roosevelt hospital. I go to their outpatient clinics, I have been a patient there for many years. I have no complaints, so far.....

I had major issues with the hospital but according to what I've read here about other hospitals, maybe my experince there wasn't so bad after all! This surgery was my first & only hospital stay. I expected (at the least) assistance getting out of bed, a working tv, a telephone and a wheelchair ride to the lobby upon discharge. I got none of those things. I did however, get a great nurse on night#2 who addressed my chest pain/difficulty breathing quickly and properly. I suppose it's worth mentioning that I feel as if I was treated no differently that a patient having any other procedure. If your main concern is hospital staff being insensitive to the needs of the morbidly obese, you need not worry at St. Luke's. I can tell you honestly that I did not feel any discrimination. I truly belive that every patient there receives the same (albeit inadequate at times) treatment due to the nursing shortage which apparently is something not exclusive to St. Luke's. Overall, I would rate half the staff at St. Luke's at 10 and the other half at 2. I heard "Sorry Miss, that's not my job" one too many times and my family spent three days in a panic in NJ because they could not reach me (no phone cord to be found despite several requests.) Never did get T.V. (well, technically, got the service but did not get a remote in order to change channel or have any volume at all (also despite numerous requests.) I got assistance to the bathroom one time and was left there to fall asleep and wake up hours later unable to get up off the toilet. I never was able to access my button to call the nurse so I had to disturb my roommate every time I had to call them (I stopped calling on day 2 until the chest pain which probably stemmed from the anxiety of not being able to move and not getting any help!) Overall, a very disappointing experience. Feel bad for the few good employees who are obviously overworked. Walked myself out despite reporting to the nurse that I felt faint.
