The hospital was adequate, I feel that had I required more help than I did I would have had some problems.

I was there for 3 days and most of the nurses were not very helpful; 30 minutes for some water, 45 minutes to turn off a light they left on in the middle of the night. One of my nurses was very nice and one of the vitals ladies was awesome nice. Dr. Vitello was in to see me on Thursday and Friday. It was great so I could ask him questions personally. I wasn't ready, physically or mentally, to go home but at least at home my 2 children (12 & 9) would help out.

I feel like my surgeon was great. She asnwered any questions I had and saw me daily during recovery. The nurses on the other hand were not that great. I was left nude on my bed for 2 days until a nurse asked why I wasn't in a hospital gown. I was supposed to be using a breathing machine to help open my lungs and prevent any lung infection. I didn't get that till 2 days later until the same nurse asked where my machine was and why wasn't I using it. My i.v. machine would beep out of control and I had to push the nurse call button numerous times before a nurse would come in to stop it from beeping. Alot of times the nurse would pick up the call and just hang up. There was one nurse named Olha that was great. She dressed me after two days got me the breathing machine I needed and attended to any need I had. I was supposed to have a private room and was placed in a shared room. The girl in the room with me had guests way past visitation hours and were very loud. Despite me calling the nurses because I was trying to rest, they allowed her guests to stay past 11:00 p.m. I was woken up alot for my vitals and blood work. That is understandable. I don't understand why a male nurse came into my room, unattended at about 6:00 a.m. and removed my cathidar after lifting my gown. It was kinda creepy. I have a female gynecologist and she always comes in with a nurse to attend and monitor the situation. It was strange that he was alone, the lights were dim, and he removed it (at 6:00 am). I was supposed to be wearing these boots on my legs that inflated any time that I was in bed to prevent blood clots. I only wore the boots the first day and told my surgeon when she visited the second day. She told me that I should be wearing the boots because blood clots can cause death. She told me to inform the nurse to put them onto me each time I got back into bed. I told the nurse on numerous occasions and it was only done a few times. I did have to get up and walk occasionally and go the the bathroom after the creepy male nurse removed my cathidar, but the boots were not put on life they should have been. I just don't feel that the hospital was attentive to my needs and my care. Like I said, the surgeons were great and the doctors who helped her were also great, but the hospital is not a place that I would chose to go to again. I was discharged without any instructions really. It was like "o.k. you are allowed to leave call us if you have any major concerns or get to a local E.R.". 2 days after I arrived home I started my menstraul period 2 1/2 weeks early. I was concerned because of the blood thinners I was given at the hospital, plus I never have my period early (especially 2 1;2 weeks early). I called the hospital and a doctor called me back. He stated that he was not sure if that was normal. This was odd to me, he is a doctor after all and should have looked into if for me and at least called back. He told me that if I was concerned about it that I should go to my local E.R. Don't doctors get years of training??? Shouldn't he have been able to say "yes it is sometimes common to start your period a little early after a major surgery" or "no that is not that common, but it can happen, don't worry" or something other than " I don't know if that is normal and if you are concerned go to your local E.R. Surgeon I used, good, nurses and on call doctor BAD!!! Overall experience:Poor. I would not chose to return to the hosptial again unless it was a life or death emergency!!!!

Everything was fine, but the nurses on the floor didn't seem very knowledgeable about LapBand surgery.

The thing I like about this hospital the best beside my psychiatrist is here, is that all the other services I could possibly want are here too connected to clinics attached to the hospital (and parking garage). My doctor refers out to specialists, while the registration, computers, and labs are shared. I like that the doctors can look into my record and see EVERYthing, but the psychology part ... that's private.

The nursing staff was horrible, you only saw the day nurse once during a shift, and only then if you kept putting on the call light. They did not answer questions/explain things at all. Very unhappy for a hospital that has "Magnet" \status, very dissapointed...

Care was wonderful. Only complaint is the administrative staff seems to like to make you "jump through hoops"... always need something additional, computer doesn't seem to remember what they put in it the last time I was there!...

Overall, the stay at UIC was pleasant, the staff was courteous and kind. The nurses were attentive (but busy!) and the student nurse was terrific! The food wasn't all that bad, either :-) !
