University of Illinois Hospital

If your HMO makes you go there, call your HMO make sure you have no other options. Thinking about the way I was treated still makes me want to cry. My Doctor was very good, and the nurse practioner who has answered my calls about questions and medication. But the hospital....please save yourself the experience.

The only complaint that I have is that my family lives out in the suburbs so that I didn't have many visitors. The staff was very efficient and helpful. I will be going back there this summer to have my hernia repaired again and possibly the "Tummy Tuck" as the weight of all this extra skin is pulling on my back and it's really getting me down being in pain 24/7.

I would not sending my worst dying enemy to this hospital. Although there were a few good nurses, everything else overrides the couple of positive people. There wasn't available handicap parking. We paid $20 in parking for the past three days. The information desk clerks were rude. The security personnal had negative attitudes at 6:50 am. If I NEVER go to that hospital again, it will be too soon. We have had better treatment at the VA hospital, and that's not saying much.

I read pretty horrible reviews about this hospital and did not want to go there after reading them. But my experience there was absolutely terrific. I had a big room for myself and the nurses were terrific. Sure, at times, they were very busy and short-staffed, but they tried their very best to meet my need.
After reading the terrible reviews about this hospital, I was pleasantly surprised at how professional everyone was. I had a wonderful experience at UIC Medical Center.

Well, it's good to have a sense of humor if you go there. I'm not saying my stay was horrible, just a comedy of errors. First, when family tried to call me, no one could find me because I had the wrong phone in my room. I had an old TV with no cable (my roomie had cable) and a greenish tint to the picture, which doesn't help when you're feeling crummy anyway. My roomie was very nice, but didn't speak much English, and was hooked on either Jerry Springer or the Spanish channel. And, it's a teaching hospital, so you get the med students coming in every morning to look at you. Again, not a horrible experience, but definitely not a country club. I must say though, I had a wonderful nurse, Trinette. She was the one who figured out the phone problem, and was very attentive to me.
