Infographic for Childhood Obesity Awareness: Targeting Children With Treats

September 28, 2015

Remember the days when children loved spending time with their friends playing for hours, riding bikes, or reading books that took them to far off places or used their imagination that they were a super detective?  As you'll see below, kids now can spend 7+ hours of screen time.  The activity that occurs during screen time is their thumbs on the controls and fingers on a keyboard!

Childhood obesity is at an all-time high. Companies spent big bucks targeting kids with food commercials during child-focused programs.  While childhood obesity is a concern, it is also a a side effect of putting toys in "Happy Meals" and commercials that tie love and good feelings to food.  Point out to your children the ways they are marketed to so they don't fall into the trap set by savvy marketing companies.  Teach them that holidays are about celebration with loved ones, not sugary sweets. These small teaching moments will grow your child into a smart adult that makes smart decisions for themselves and their children.

Combating childhood obesity starts early in a child's life and continues through their teenage years.  Be an example for making healthy food choices and incorporates activity and exercise in your own life.  Make health a family goal that will pay off for generations to come!
