I will try to speak French - just don't be surprised if I order an umbrella (parapluie) by mistake instead of a grapefruit (pampelmousse)! Luckily I can draw, and will carry a sketchbook and an English-French dictionary, which should help clarify our intentions!

Don't know why but I thought you were fluent in French. I have lived in France before (Biarritz), and sorta understand French as long as they speak slowly. But when I have to answer I mix it up with Italian and Spanish. As long as we have a phone with us it can translate simultaneously. We'll be good.

So....when are we leaving?

Biarritz! What a fabulous place to live!

My father's parents were painters, and they lived in Paris during the 1920's and 30's. My dad spoke fluent French - 12 languages in fact, and my mom was fluent in 5 or 6. Me? Unfortunately, I only really speak Engli****ook Latin and French in school, but am not really fluent. But I'm willing to learn! Throw me into the deep end linguistically, I'm sure I'll make all kinds of a fool out of myself, but I would emerge speaking French! Some OH members here are fluent in French, especially some of our Canadian friends.

I took french and latin in school and I worked in our Latin American team for years so have functional spanish. I will tell you, one of my proudest days was when my spanish speaking coworkers made a joke and I actually got it without anyone having to translate it for me...of course, that was like 3 minutes after everyone else in the room but it was awesome!

Last night's grocery store mission was to stock up on $1.79 sale price Smart Ones brand frozen dinners in the flavor Crustless Chicken Pot Pie. These serve as emergency meals to help prevent poor food choices when hurried or feeling lazy. QOTD: I do not travel so have no clue. A local who did travel the world in search of the most beautiful place on earth to live out his old age made his move to Costa Rica. My sister in her late 50's did the same thing but New Zealand denied her request for citizenship stating, "she would put a strain on their programs for the elderly."

I've checked into immigrating to New Zealand, too. And Australia, And Canada. I'm past my prime (also late 50s), so it'd be tough to get into any of them. I have a 49-year-old spouse, though...
