Bad reaction to pre-surgery protein diet. Any advice?

I'm starting week 2 of my pre-surgery protein drinks. I've tried several types of protein shakes, some RTD and some you mix with water. Regardless I keep having issues with my stomach and with diarrhea (sorry TMI). Anyone else have this problem. Or can you recommend another protein drink to try that might alleviate the problem. It's hard to travel under the current conditions.

Are you on a full liquid diet? If so, this can be completely normal and won't necessarily change until you add solids back into your diet.

Two shakes per day and one high protein low carb meal per day until surgery.

I also have problems when I drink protein shakes.  For me it's the artificial sweeteners that send my stomache overboard.  Now I am drinking the high protein ensure, 25g protein and 210 calories.  It's higher calorie than I would like but I have less than 20lbs left to lose so I'm not too worried about.  Sucralose is a HUGE cause of diarrhea because your body doesn't digest it, it just goes right through.  Try finding a protein shake without sucralose if yours currently has it in there.  You can also add benefiber to your shakes to help slow things down.

If you are lactose intolerant you can get the lactaid drops to help with any stomach problems.  The diarrhea is normal though.

I use Unjury protien powder and love it. I get the unflavored and add it to water and add half a packet of crystal light. You dont taste the protien at all. They also have chocolate, strawberry and vanilla which are very good as well. You could add those to lactose milk if the milk is bothering your stomach.

Try and find a protein shake thats sweetened with Stevia instead of aspertame. You may also try adding a 1/4 cup of coffee to your protein...it helps with the upset tummy!

I had the same issues . I bought the " soy protein" mix it with orange juice ( vanilla) tastes like orange creamsicle. Your diarrhea should disappear . I had the same issues from the whey in the protein. Good luck my surgery is Jan 9 I am doing the same and also try " Protein water" I bought all my stuff from gnc.
