Hello everyone,

I was just wondering how long that you guys waited from the time that you contacted the Bariatric department to the time that you were able to schedule your surgery. I know that some insurance companies require that you do a 6 month supervised diet but my insurance does not.  Thanks! :)

I went to the Cleveland Clinic on may 24 and completed all the appointments by the end of August. There were some problems submitting to insurance that caused some delay, so I didn't get surgery until Nov 12

I had a six month wait period.  I had monthly appointments with RD and RN.  While I was resistant at first, I gave me some time to really make some plans.  I also stopped drinking 30 min after meals, things like that.  I ended up appreciating the time both myself and my family had to get ready for a successful surgery.  Best of luck to you on this journey!!

contracted the bariatric center on Oct 26th and took the class online the same day. Did all the tests and everything and got my approval on December 5th, so just over a month. Im very lucky because my clinic does 3/4 appointments each time you come in. So i only had to go there about 3 times to get everything complete. Works great with my work schedule.

Don's was 3 weeks because he changed his surgery from VSG to DS and the request had to be resubmitted. Mine was 2 weeks. For Don, he couldn't take the first date offered as his sister was getting married 3 days after surgery, then we had family visiting and he didn't want to be in recovery while they were here. His was scheduled 2 weeks after the original date offered.

Mine was approved and I asked for the first date available. Unfortunately, that is 6 weeks after approval. However, December 18th has a reservation for another doctor but he doesn't have a surgery scheduled. He has until the 11th to schedule something. If he doesn't, I get that date.

Thanks, Diana

A bit less than a month. We switched to BCBSNC July 1st  and my surgery was July 31st.

It helps I had tried to get it done previously 2 years prior to 2012. We had switched insurances so I knew the process. The longest part of it all was meeting the psychologist. Two sessions and done.

It took 10 days to be approved by insurance, then we booked out my surgery date for 6 weeks after that.

The program i am going through is a "center of excellence" the process takes approx 4-6 months from start to finish. I started Oct 3rd at my first informational meeting and i am almost ready to meet the director of the program before the surgeon and then we start the approval process. I had to take 6 weeks of lifestyle change classes which end on Dec 27th and my psych eval is Dec 28th.. hoping to have surgery sometime in Feb 2013.

My insurance required the 6 month program, but it actually took me 2 years to get approval from the docs and the psychologist at the weight center.
