My fave pre-op costume was Medusa. It was a full-length, long sleeve, low cut (showed my girls) black gown. I teased my hair to great heights and the head piece, of course, had snakes that would peek out of my MASSIVE hair.![]() This year I wanted to be a fembot but we will be on vacation when our friends will be having their masquerade party and somehow I don't think the neighborhood would appreciate a mom walking her daughter around door-to-door dressed in a pink nightie with gun barrels poking out of the bra! I might just dust off ONEder Woman one more time! - Submitted by: becka_n_ky |

We love Halloween here too. My husband's birthday is November 1st and I always joke that when he was little, he used to think it was his birthday. I don't think I have any pictures of it. But several years pre-op, I have dressed up as a spider, with my husband wrapping me with black visquine, (you know the plastic they make garbage bags out of.) making legs, and painting my face. I have won awards with that costume. It would take about an hour to do and I would barely fit into the car and I would sweat to no end. Nothing like an 200 lb woman wrapped in plastic. |

I am still pre-surgery, but I can't WAIT to be able to fit into a store-bought costume! We have a costume party every year and I have to make my costume every year because they don't have pre-made costumes for women who are 300+ pounds! I may still make my costume in the future, but it will because I WANT to, not because I have to. Last year, we went as Mr. and Mrs. Red Green (From the Public TV show). Since Mrs. Red Green isn't actually on the show - I could do anything. I covered an old skirt with duct tape and wore a flannel shirt. This year we're going as characters from Harry Potter. My goal costume when I get to goal weight is to find a 1960's - 70's mini dress/ shirt and go either as a hippie or disco queen. I bought my reward outfit, and that is on my blog if you ever choose to look! - Submitted by MrsSmith50009 |

This will be the first year where I actually wear a costume that's fun and sexy. I am SOOOO excited! I've never fit into anything remotely sexy... lol - Submitted by Elena |

The last time I dressed up for Halloween was as "Pat" (the androgynous SNL character played by Julia Sweeney back in the 90s). The costume theme was TV characters. Pat was a very comfortable overweight character. I wore a short black curly haired wig, horn-rimmed glasses and even tucked in the blue shirt and wore a belt around the waistband of some men's khakis. I could even do a dead-on impersonation of the weird noises and movements Pat made. Julia was padded for the show, but I didn't need to. LOL I knew it was a hit when I walked in and I people started yelling "It's Pat!? I ended up winning the contest. I wish I had a picture. Who remembers Pat? - Submitted by soon2Bfine |

I too went as Mimi from the Drew Carey show one year. In 1970, I went as a bride...YES, a REAL bride, so I guess it wasn't a costume. LOL! We actually had trick or treaters pound on our motel room door that night. BTW, we didn't answer the door. LOL. I usually dress like a witch because I have a very large black dress and a cape. I would LOVE to dress up in a store bought costume. Maybe next year! - Submitted by moparmemaw |

I would never dress up because of my size. I'm not even close to my goal, but this year I feel different. I found a costume on the Oriental Trading Company site so I'm going to be a cave woman!!! - Submitted by bludogwa |

I love Halloween and my husband and I always go WAY overboard on our costumes. Last year, we were Shera and Heman and I made the coolest costumes. Even big, I just made costumes that were flattering, but still fun. This year, now that I am post op (only recently, so again weight doesn't really matter), we are going as Wolf and Phoenix, the two American Gladiators, including inflatable fighting sticks, and the costumes are RAD! We are such nerds, but I love getting all dressed up. It is our thing! - Submitted by megange1 |

The only costume I ever wore when I was heavier was a fairy costume...just a shiftless dress that I *thought* hid my weight:![]() This year I am being a ballerina for the conference... ![]() but I actually had a NSV when I bought my girls a dress up, medieval princess costume in a children's XL and it fit me instead of them...lmao...so if my tutu fails to arrive I have backup! Many pounds ago...I had a great "I dream of Jeanie" type costume. Guess I will have to recreate it when I am back down. The last few years I wore scrubs and a lab coat, carrying a stuffed dog. I was a Veterinarian. I also had a Viking lady...think "when the fat lady sings" type dress. And the hat/horns. I'd my braid my own hair and voila! I can sing too! However, I am thinking Devil this year...because I feel devilish! - Submitted by Sosew |

The last costume party for Halloween I attended was way before surgery...it was in 1980. The party was at a friend's house...my then GF went all out, had a sexy lady vampire costume...quite hot! I was scrambling at the last minute for something...when I had a brainstorm. I slipped out to the store and found a pair of tan briefs and bought the largest pair of panty hose the store had. I took an old pair of the GFs pantyhose and stuffed a condom to the max....it had to be at least 18 inches long with massive girth. Sewed the stuffed condom to the front of the big pantyhose....put the briefs on then the pantyhose w/the stuffed condom on. I had made some shorts from an old pair of jeans and took the left over leg parts and tied them at my knees with a pair of shoestrings. A T-shirt and a raincoat topped it off. When we arrived to the party (fashionably late, of course) I apologized to the host for not having the chance to put a costume together but I had hoped that the GFs costume would make up for my lack of one. She replied that it was no problem and asked if she could take my coat....when I unbuttoned the raincoat you should have seen her eyes pop out of her head! It was the hit costume of the party....and the GF about raped me in the car after the party...lol...what a night!! - Submitted by BigBob Notforlong (Gizmo) |

My favorite costume is a witch. The only difference between before and after surgery is before, I was always the scary witch with lots of layers, and this year I will be, well, I will attempt to be, a sexier witch. Here's hoping it all works out! Submitted by: Lisa P. |

OMG.. LOL One year I went to the local Sally Anne and got the loudest red dress jacket, and tacky dress pants, a really bad checkered dress shirt and a tie. ( All Men's) I made a really BIG tacky gold chain out of the chain you hang a lamp from... I got a cardboard coffin attached it to a red wagon... I printed up contracts. I went to my legion Halloween party as a USED COFFIN salesman.. I had a ball...I had my sample coffin on the wagon..and had everyone sign a contract. LOL - Submitted by izzyw13 |

My favorite costume pre-op was a witch.. Mostly because it was the only purchasable costume that came in my size. I could have made a costume, but I'm not very creative. My first Halloween as a post-op I was a kitty. Though by the time this pic was taken... I had lost my whiskers and my fuzzy nose!![]() - Submitted by tabethalynn |

Usually, my husband dresses up as a scary killer type {like Jason or Mike Meyers} and I scary up our porch and he is put in a chair out of reach of the children. He sits very still until the kids get up there then he pretends he is tied to the chair and struggling to get at them. I make awesome gift bags for Halloween {I buy one large candy aka like candy ring, or pop rocks, or candy necklace. Then, I put in the bag with that 2 or 3 different kinds of suckers and about 10 different candies and I put all that in a zip lock baggie with my address on it so the parents know it's safe.} I offer the littlest ones who get scared a second bag of candy of their choice {the main gift} if they hit the scary monster and make him behave. You'd be shocked how many kids will do that for Candy. Then I tell them it's just my Husband waiting to scare our son lol. They laugh have fun the parents have fun and my husband feels popular for one night... hahaha. Because he is considered legally blind, he kinda keeps to himself, or us, mostly and thus doesn't make a lot of friends. He doesn't like to have to tell anyone he can't see. He finds it hard when someone shows him something or says look at that and he can't see it, so he gets popular too for that night. overall it's a lot of fun. I wish I had pics! I dressed up before as a vampire and the costume and how I put it all together (makeup and all) was killer! I scared the crap outta kids. Lol. I did that costume cuz all I really needed was black clothes (slimming) and a cape (which fits anyone and hid me at the same time) and I had a black wig and the teeth and black finger nails, etc. Now, I want to try and experiment. I take my youngest out still and would like to dress up with her so I am trying to think of ideas and am excited that now I can go into a costume store and find costumes that actually fit me! - Submitted by wildangel |

Pre-op, I always made for a nicely shaped pumpkin. As a post-op, I'm thinking that the kids and I will do a theme. I found a bunch of Wizard of Oz kids costumes at Walmart in the US, so my daughter will go as Dorothy, and the next three will be the lion, tin man, and scarecrow. The baby will be Toto, and I'll go as the wicked witch and hubby as the wizard. I can't wait!!! :) - Submitted by karaboo2 |

Great picture of a mad housewife. I don't have a pic but a friend of mine went dressed the same as your housewife getup but had a hotdog in a jar and she was Lorena Bobbitt! Another one went dressed as a cowgirl with a sign on her saying "save a horse ride a cowboy." Just one more came to mind - dress as a cowboy with pieces of toast attached here and there and go as a "toasted western.)I love Halloween! Enjoy October. - Submitted by PAWIS47 |

I love Halloween more than any other holiday so I've not stopped dressing up... and I'm 44! LOL! It has NEVER been about the candy but about who else I can be for a day! Some of my costumes include Mama Cass, Mimi (from the Drew Carey Show), Mistress/Dominatrix, Reggae Singer, Star Trek Ensign, Hairdresser, Domestic Goddess, Clown, folk singer, etc. This will be my first year as a post-op and I'm thinking of costumes but don't know what to do (we dress up at work too but that is more G rated.) LOL!I'm under 200lbs now but not thin enough to wear commercial costumes, so I get to fire my creative brain cells yet again. All I know is that since my husband and I are Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus - this year I have to pad my costume and take in the Victorian dress... A LOT! :D Let's all have a little fun! - Submitted by Nadine B. |

Haven't dressed up post surgery yet, so I'd have to say my favorite costume was a few years ago. Dressed up as "When Pigs Fly". I bought a pair of men's waffle weave, one piece, long underwear and dyed it pink. I then made a pair of wings from foam and spray painted them pink as well, made a pigs tail (braided pipe cleaners), ears (head band) and bought a snout. Once I got it all on, I added "additional stuffing" (batting) and stuffed myself even more. Although the costume looked great I almost died of HEAT PROSTRATION !!!! Didn't realize how dam hot that stuffing would be!!!!!! :) But, it was worth it - won best costume! - Submitted by Sandhills |

I like Halloween. I have not dressed up in years.. One of my costumes, I dressed up as alfalfa of the little rascals and won first prize. Since then, I have never dressed up for Halloween, .but I like all the other costumes that I have seen my friends dressed up in. If I did dress up for Halloween again, I would dress up as a sexy French maid or a cat...I always liked October. .October is the month of my birthday. I was supposed to be born on Halloween day but I came on October 26. I like your costume of the mad house wife...take care. - Submitted by paula-37 |

One year I went as Joan of Arc complete with handmade chain maile. All I can say is that chain maile is the first true one size fits all. It expands, it contracts.. it gives, it takes... hehe.. Loved it.. btw.. if you sunbathe in a chain maile bikini you will tan all over.. it lets sunlight through w/o giving up coverage. lol Woot! - Submitted by Karen M. |
