Question regarding goal weights set by Doctor

When I had my appointment with the nurse practitioner a couple of weeks ago she stated that the clinic's goal weight for me 2 years post surgery would be 230lbs, current weight is 295lbs. A 65 pound loss is not my goal, I want to reach a goal weight of 150lbs. Am I being unrealistic? I have no intention of not reaching onederland! I am not sure what to think, part of me is discouraged and another of part of me thinks I'll see your 65lbs and raise you another 80lbs!!!!

Hello...

I must admit I like your tenacity!

I am not sure where these weight management teams get their ideas.

I was 283 when I began this journey. I am now at 202. My weight management doctor suggested 190 as goal weight. I wanted to get to 175 lbs (my weight when I was 25 and smokin hot... Probably not realistic because I will have a lot a excess skin. BUT I like you am determined to get to 175. The big question is will my body allow it?

I am 5 7in and have a large bone frame.

So my advice.... Continue on this journey one pound at a time... Set small goals as you progress along. You and only you gets to decide where you want to be! Love your enthusiasm and I hope you achieve all the best that this journey offers and so much more!

Thank you Mahalo (Sandra)

I have been following your great progress! You are not far from the Dr. goal for you. I hate being told I can't do something it just makes me more determined to do it!

I agree with you our goals should be a weight that we know we felt good at.

If you look in the resources tab under post-op planner it sets a dismally small amount of expected weight loss for surgery.

My goals will be my goals and will take the inspiration from all of the successful people on this forum that it can be done!

Surgeries are considered successful if you lose 50% of your excess weight. You can lose all of it if you are determined.

Hi, the clinics set their goal weights by a percentage of excess weight lost, and it is not 100%. They told me at my 1 year follow up that I am a success and I am at 140% of their goal. I said I wanted a normal BMI and they told me not to worry about that.....and truly I'm not I just have a number in my head that I want to get too. Right now its about another 10 lbs....I'd like to be comfortably in the 170s. I originally thought 160 just for fun, but looking at me now I know that's not realistic. I just keep on keeping on and will land where I land.

Don't let their goal stop you from getting to your own.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

hello my friend, i also agree with Malhala. I had my surgery 2 years ago, my start weight was 285 and i currently fluctuate from 197-201. I am healthy yes but would have liked to loose at least another 50 pounds.

Most to all of my medical conditions have disapeared and for that i am grateful.

i am not sure how they come up with those numbers; maybe height and body structure?

I also have alot of excess skin around my midriff probably 15-18 pounds. Keep making good choices, keep those head games related to food on the back burner.
