I personally really like the powdered Fuzzy Navel and Pink Grapefruit flavors of the Nectar brand protein shakes. I mix them with water and they are thinner and provide a break from all the creamy shakes. They are sweet but both are more tart as well, which helps.

I also like the Isopure RTD little bottles of the Grape Frost protein shakes. They have half as much protein as the Premier Protein shakes though at only 15g protein for an 8oz bottle. They taste like the purple Gatorade, and feel more hydrating than most of the creamy shakes which I like when I am out and about.

I like Unjury and Sytrax products - no protein aftertaste. Lately I've been using more Quest powders, but those are not whey protein isolate (they're a protein blend), so I wouldn't use those until you're pretty far out and are getting most of your protein from your food. Early out you should stick to whey protein isolate (Unjury and Syntrax Nectar powders are isolates)

I will probably have to stay on protein shakes for awhile (if not forever) since I malabsorb protein. So I get pretty creative with them to keep them interesting. I've gotten a lot of ideas from Pinterest on how to doctor them up.

If you don't like sweet I'd get the unjury chicken soup. I thought that was great. The unflavored can be added to anything as well.

I am the same way! I'm almost 5 months out now and have really struggled because of it. I hate the taste (and the aftertaste) of most artificial sweeteners and sucralose does a number on me. My insides do NOT respond well to it.

I tried sooo many brands and flavors. I've used Premier Protein (usually banana or vanilla, sometimes caramel) b/c it's convenient and the least objectionable tasting. More recently I found Isopure Unflavored Protein Powder. It doesn't have sucralose and it's the least noticeable when added to soup/drink/smoothie. I use it in broth (love Chicken Pho), tomato basil soup, etc. One I've tried after looking back at Eggface's recipes is a Pudding Protein Shake. Blended 8 oz milk, a scoop of Isopure Unflavored and a teaspoon or so of Chocolate Fudge Sugar Free Pudding mix. A bit thick but good! Approx 35 grams of protein. Could use any flavor of SF pudding mix.

Just be careful of the temperature if you add it to anything hot. Not only will it clump but my nutritionist said it "denatures" the protein (?). Basically kills any nutritional value so you won't get the protein.

And, can I just say, I feel gypped that my tastes haven't changed. It would be so much easier if certain things didn't taste good anymore or I suddenly didn't mind the artificial sweeteners. It really limits what I can drink and doesn't change what tempts me.

Good luck!

The ones I liked most after surgery were Premier protein pre made shakes and Syntrax.

I bought the sampler package of Syntrax Nectar protein shakes (15 flavors) and did a taste test. I found several flavors that I really liked and then bought them in larger packages. Some are made with sucralose and some with stevia. Check out the labels.

I never really cared for any of the prepared shakes. I got unflavored powder and made my own using skim milk and pure sucralose to sweeten (way better than the little packets, the stuff they mix it with in them is what causes the aftertaste...blech).

Started with Syntrax, then went to Isopure Zero. The thing I liked best about that was I used liquid flavorings (with no sugar in them), and made all kinds of combinations to keep any one from getting boring. These were some of my favorites:

Almond Joy = Coconut and almond flavorings, cocoa
Mounds = Same as above without the almond
Pina Colada = Pineapple and coconut
Tropical Delight = Pineapple, banana, and coconut
Banana Creme = Banana with a touch of vanilla

I also added the powder to either beef or chicken broth for a savory option. That helped a lot!

My favorite flavor now? Invisible = As in not ever having to drink one unless it's absolutely necessary*!! lol

*and then I have Premier Protein Vanilla, I always keep a couple in the fridge for emergencies

Premier ready to drink a great in the beginning, cause they actually are thin and you don't have to consume that much. The further out I was I found the one filling enough so I preferred powders and making it in a blender. I do like the inspire brand that sold by bariatric eating.com, I also like the Syntrax Brand, especially fuzzy navel. Use it to make like an orange Julius shake, and it's the only one I've ever tasted that I think taste good in water.

You do go through phases and at five weeks out I thought I did couldn't choke down another shake, and then I found the coffee flavored ones like Chike and fit frappe and those saved me
