The doctor told me to eat potato chips

A true story.  My dr.s today decided that I am not eating enough.  They put me on an appetite stimulant and told me to eat chips today (they would also help with my low sodium level).  One offered a milkshake as an alternative.  (For you pre-surgery folks who are thinking chips, shakes, doesn't sound so bad--trust me--this is an uncommon remedy),  Seriously--do these doctors really not understand what drove me to have a VSG in the first place?  At least the scale started to budge.  Down 41 pounds since my presurgical diet began 55 days ago!

Hmm.. interesting. I would check with a nutritionist about healthier ways to get sodium level up ...

Good luck hon.. it will work if you work it!!

You had WLS 6 weeks ago and they put you on an appetite stimulant and told you to eat chips??? Did you get that in writing?!!

Either 1) this can't be true 2) you need to check with the medical board to make sure he's a doctor or 3) you need to run far far away from that doctor.

That is why he is a surgeon, and not a nutritionist. Bottom line, that is by far the worst advice I've ever heard of for those that are not consuming enough calories, and still in the losing stage.

Logically, well screw that, there is no logic in his suggestion.

When I couldn't get my losing to stop, and I was struggling to get into maintenance, my surgeon told me to increase carbs from 30gr a day to 60-80 (I still struggled to get in that amount), and to eat higher fat foods without changing my portion size. Essentially, eating higher "good" fat foods, nuts, peanut butter, avocados,  a little "fatter' types of meats etc etc. Eating tuna in oil instead of water. And, that worked wonderfully for me.

Eating carbohydrates can (and all too frequently does) stimulate the appetite.

But, don't eat many of them, and do NOT make a habit of it.

I would find something completely different to eat then... dont take appetite stimulants!! it is GOOD to not be hungry all the time.. just eat when you are supposed to.. and I would just up some calories elsewhere
