So Cal Sleevers or anyone interested in 5k/Half Marathons?

I would love to chat with/get to know other So Cal Sleevers (other locales too), particularly those interested in training for/completing 5k/Half Marathons (walking, not running unfortunately).

I am thinking of entering the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon with Team Special Olympics SOSC http://www.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1012366

It isn't cheap, but it is for a GREAT cause! My daughter has participated in Special Olympics for two years now and I would love to give back while also helping myself.

I had my Surgery out in Lancaster. I go to a great support group the 4th Thursday of every month out that way. Most of them are sleevers as well which is cool.

I'm going to check out that Marathon. Hard to commit to things that far out though because I travel for work sometimes with short notices.

The support group is cool. I've been twice in the past 3 months. Had to miss it in February because I had surgery. The first 2 I went to though had about 50-60 people there. I know most of them are patients of Dr Yadegar but all are welcome to join including friends and family. :)

As for 3/31 I'm going for sure. My wife is doing The Great Urban Race in Santa Monica that same day with her girlfriends so while she is doing that I will be hanging out with you all :)

I'm just over the hill in the SFV (though went to SF for the VSG.) My wife and I do the Big Sur marathon in late April sometimes - much nicer scenery than most of the SoCal events. I usually wind up doing more of a 10k for the 5K event since my wife is always stopping to take pictures. We'll be up there again this year if my orthopod doesn't put me down for a shoulder repair before then (and that times out close to my one year surgiversery.)

1st support group/seminar - 8/03 (has it been that long?)

Aww, you guys are making me homesick!! I used to live in Canyon Country (near Sierra Hwy and Soledad Cyn), I worked in Glendale (on Brand Blvd near the 134) and lived in Palmdale (near 47th and R-8) and spent a lot of time in Lancaster - although I DON'T miss the Antelope Valley - way too hot and dry!!

But now I'm in Wyoming and love the cooler weather we have here and the smaller town - no more sitting for an hour and a half on the 14, 5 and 134 freeways anymore just to get to work! I now only live 10 minutes from work and only go through 1 stoplight to get there from home!
