my best guess is dehydration. But I think of a lot of people still drink it.

Some medical professionals believe it *causes* dehydration. Most are moving away from that belief. What happens is that when you dont consume it regularly, it can have a slight diuretic effect. If you have caffeine more frequently (and not even every day) that diuretic effect disappears. I dont believe that caffeine causes dehydration otherwise Id be in the hospital. I do however, always drink a minimum of 80-100 oz of OTHER, calorie free, non caffeinated fluids in addition to my coffee, so it will never be an issue for me.
A lot of people drink it. Id recommend waiting for several months before drinking caffeinated drinks though - wait till your stomach is healed, and you can get in required fluids/protein.
