Daily Maintenance - April 16 2014

Good morning:

Coward that I am not getting on scales this morning.   Ate a small but dense meal at 11pm last evening for reasons entirely out of my control.  But I know that the scale will reflect it and don't want the number to color my day.  Silly really.

That a number can dictate. But it still does.

Hope that your numbers are all happy ones.

143.4 - emotional eating.

My hubby caught me diving into an ice cream bar last night and he asked me what was going on that was driving me to food. We talked for a couple of hours because we just haven't had much time together, lately. I'm feeling better. Once I get through today, I'll be able to let some of this go. I hope.

My boy turns 16 today. He's getting a license. I need bubble wrap. Lots of it.

Communication- cool tool!  Way better than ice cream--hubby loves you, the ice cream dosen't!   I spent so many years pretending that there was nothing wrong with my eating, and getting hubby to agree with the lie, that even now, it is a bit of a taboo topic- I am trying to be a whole lot more open with him and am encouraging crosstalk.  Shoot, I figured if I never told him what I weighed, he'd never KNOW I weighed 345#s.  He knows now- if I'm up- down-or the same.  Sharing who I am is scary, esp. in this area.  Opening up about it with Kurt has helped me open up with lots of other things--Total spill over benefit of WLS--a better marriage!

The issue of scales- how often to weigh- when not to-  all of that is so problematic, and an individual thing- mentally healthy and sensible accounting for some- the devil for others!  For me, I face them every day.  It's not the number so much, but what I'm thinking and how I feel as I am about to step up on them lets me know how well I followed my eating plan the day before.  Fingers crossed and hoping the "scale god" will give me a break?  Yep, that means I had a crap day yesterday.  Step up on them and they reflect a slight gain?  Time to take an invetory.  Maybe my finger went into the PB jar one time too many--maybe I did just fine, and the scales are fickle...  I am practicing developing a more "business" relationship with these tools called scales--Trying to make them my frienamy and eliminate the emotional aspect--so hard to do.   145.8

I was fat as a child and used to dread going to the pediatrician who would weigh me and tell me gently that i should lose 10 pounds. he was kind but i was always mortified.  had scale-phobia all my life and would close my eyes at the doctor and tell them not to tell me.    i have finally learned that my scale is my friend. it won't tell me i look great when i don't or tell me i am evil when i am not.  it just tells me a single fact - its up to me how i react.  my doctor says weigh daily during maintenance but not daily during weight loss phase.  daily weighing is for me one of my most important maintenance habits.  its encouraging to see the 120ish number rather than twice that. plus it reminds me to think about what i will be eating during the day or reflect on what i have eaten the day before. i realize that an up or down pound is normal and not necessarily a judgement of my immediate behavior or my morality.  its there for my benefit and i use it.

120.5 on this sunny windy day in nor cal.    diane

143.2

I seem to be settling into the 142 to 143 ish range.

I too weigh myself daily.  Usually a 'bad" day doesn't show up for two days.   I don't know if it is good or bad to weigh that often, but I hop on as soon as I get out of bed in the am.   For a while I was upset with myself because I couldn't get it to drop below 140. then I said to myself  Holy Crap you have lost 110 lbs, give yourself some credit!!
