Alex, From what Shar has been telling us, you are going through the ringer and still have a positive attitude. Keep it up! I hope you have a great Easter and I am praying for a rapid recovery as well as rapid weight loss (which seems to already be happening!) Good Luck to you- I hope you get home soon!

Alex, I am always looking forward to the updates on how you are doing. Sorry I haven't posted a message to you sooner. I'm happy to know that you are doing well. All that walking is fabulous! Hopefully your pouch will seal up quickly. I pray for you and yours. You take care of yourself. Keep your chin up, it's all going to be a distant memory one day. :) Julie

Alex of TX had surgery 3/29 and has been in the hospital now 24 days! He is going a little stir crazy, but doesn't seem depressed. Alex's incision is coming along, and his weight is dropping... -85 lbs. as of last night and his insulin continues under good control. He is walked 500 feet twice yesterday. He is now at 555lbs. His doctor is still waiting for his pouch to seal. He is hoping he won't get an NG tube come Monday. The main line in his chest probably has an occlusion and they are thinking he will need a new main line... which I guess is like a heart cath. By now, Alex knows all the ins and outs of the medical machines and patient care. This is like a medical internship for him! Please ALL who read this send Alex a hello - his wife takes all messages to him and he appreciates it so much. I just don't know how he is hanging in there... I've never met anybody like Alex and his sweet wife. If you'd like to call Alex you can reach him at (214) 590-3702. I will call Alex tomorrow to see what happens with his main line. Lots of Love,

Alex had surgery 3/29 in Dallas. As you all know, we are waiting for Alex's tummy to seal! Even with his leakage problems, (apparently they can tell about the leakage from his JP drain) Alex continues to make big strides forward in his recovery. Today his PT took him to a staircase and he walked up and down it and back to his room! There was not even a twinge of pain in his left knee that used to cause him so much pain. His PT has declaired him fit with no need of a nursing home after discharge. His incision is still healing and slowly getting smaller, but will probably still need home nursing care when he gets home. He is still on the heprin/protein/insulin solution main IV, however, his insulin needs have dropped. Prior to surgery his blood sugar was 165 and it is now running 147-152! Soon he will be off insulin injections. Finally, as Alex takes nothing by mouth STILL, he is dropping 2-3lbs. per day. Today his weight loss hit -73lbs! Alex appreciates all your posts and those who are following his recovery. Look for another post on Alex in a few days, meanwhile we are hoping the doctor won't re-insert an NG tube in Alex... the NG tube would apparently be to help keep his tummy dry to promote faster healing. Alex has had this done before, and it ain't fun! He is his usual happy self despite wishing to be home. I guess the hospital nurses are okay, cuz he says there are, "No mean ones." Alex is an inspiration to all of us, especially those having a harder time post-op. Love,

Alex, hang in there. You'll get out of there soon and on with your new life. The weight just seems to be falling off of you! And the joint pain has already stop. That is so wonderful. We are all pulling for you to have as short a hospital stay as possible. Best wishes. Rosanne
