I could not log on earlier - sorry this is late. Alex had a proximal RnY (100cm bypassed) on 3/29. Due to some complications, he is still in the hospital. The nurses have had a hard time maintaining an IV in Alex's veins, so they finally put in a main line which he said caused pressure but no pain after the local anesthesia. His IV is providing him with protein, insultin, and heprin. He is off all pain meds at this point. Alex has his incision packed 3 times each day and covered with montgomery strips which makes his tummy look like a football. Before the montgomery strips, they used a binder which "rode up" Alex like a "push-up" bra. LOL. He has lost 64 lbs. in 17 days now! Hopefully on Monday, the doctor will do a colored fluid test to see if Alex's pouch has healed or if it still has a hole. He still has his staples and JP drain. He has had no fevers and is on antibiotics still. After all this time in the hospital - he has "cabin fever" pretty bad as he can see a fourth of Dallas from his hospital window. Since he is not eating or drinking, he said that he misses tasting things right now. Alex said that all his "plumbing" is working - if you know what I mean. Alex's sweet wife misses him at home. She says that all the valet parking people know her name now! Previously, Alex had pain in his left knee and back when he walked and that has disappeared now! "Little Hitler" (as he fondly calls his physical therapist) continues to drill him around the halls. As usual, Alex and his wife are positive and hoping maybe next week will be his week to leave the hospital! Alex's wife prints out his surgery messages - so please click on his name and leave him a message. Thanks to all that have supported Alex. Love,

Dear Alex, I responded to Loren's message as follows: "04/14 02:01 PM LOREN GLENN - There is a very sweet gentleman in Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas right now named Alexander McNeill,(he goes by Alex). You can see Alex's profile on "Find Peers" on this site under IRVING, TEXAS. Alex used Dr. Provost and is currently under his care. Alex knows him very well. I know Alex would be happy to talk to you as he is still in the hospital. He had surgery 3/29, but is having some complications. He feels fine though and likes to chat. You can contact Alex at the hospital at: (214) 590-3702. I have not heard about so many revisions of RnY's - only VBG's. Love, -- Shar /UT"

Alex - I pulled this from the message board for you today. "04/14 01:22 PM Hello all, I am looking for information about DR Provost in Dallas. EX: type of surgery he performs, bedside manner, phone number etc.. I am deciding between VGB-Mesh banding or RNY open or closed, sounds like vbg has alot of revisions, i was going with vbg for lower complication rate. Now from reading this forum I am seriously considering RNY, I jut dont want alot of complication 10 or 15 yrs down the road. I previously had not considered RNY due to some info I recvd from DR Rutledges info packet/web site, he states that he performs 1-3 revisions of RNY A week. SO NOW.......I am really not sure what to do ???? Anyone is welcome to email me at [email protected], between the hrs of 8-5. Thanks & good luck to all !! Loren -- Loren Glenn"

Hey Alex, how's it going? I'm so sorry you've had all these problems but it sounds like things are coming along. Hope you'll be going home soon and that you continue to feel better each and every day. You can't be too upset about a 54 pound weight loss while you're still in the hospital. Holy Toledo, that's a lot. Anyway, just wanted you to know that I'm sending my best wishes, (((( ))))) and prayers. Nancy G.

Alex had surgery on 3/29 and is still in the hospital due to a possible leak in his pouch. His incision had to be re-opened and packed in two areas to heal properly. He is finished with his breathing treatments and walking around the ward 2-3 times each day. Alex has now lost 54 lbs. since his surgery! Of course, he cannot have anyting by mouth still and will be in the hospital another week. He may be able to go home after that instead of a nursing facility with the help of a home health nurse. We should know in about a week if his pouch has sealed on its own or if he will need another surgery. Alex is in good spirits and likes everybody at the hospital, especially his physical therapist who cracks the whip behind him as he walks! Alex's wife printed out his card to him with all your messages and he says 'Thank You!' to everybody who has been so supportive. Please continue to post hello's to Alex on his surgery page! Look for another update on Alex in a day or so.
