Hello New Chicago People!
Apr 16, 2013
Hi!
I created this group so long ago so the fact that there are now several members is so exciting! This is the space to share about our personal experiences and LOCAL events, gyms, restaurants, vitamin shops etc that are WLS friendly or can be beneficial to our Weight Loss success!
My name is Jada, I blog as Fat2Flaca (Fat2Flaca.org) I'm a North side Puerto Rican VSG patient sleeved 4/25/12 and am 180 lbs down (including 30-lbs pre-op) and do not have ANY WLS friends or family from Chicago (not the burbs) who understand what its like to have a lil stomach in a big city!
Feel free to introduce yourselves and begin being active here on the message board!

23-Week Progress Picture

I still don't believe it some mornings when i weigh myself that I have come this far in this amount of time. In the first 3 months I had so much anxiety about excess skin and saving up for plastics, but I am proud that I could no longer give a fuck less about a saggy panocha or bat wings. I actually feel YOUNGER, HAPPIER and in LESS PAIN. I have received so much love and support on FB and instagram over the past few months, so much more than my own family even offers me. I would have been clueless without Obesityhelp's forums. My GW is about 180lbs and I intend on reaching that goal and maintaing it forever. VSG was the best decision I made in my entire life. Follow my journey at th links below.

Day 55!
Jun 18, 2012
I have been MIA from OH because I decided to start blogging about my sleeved life as a young, Latina, fashion junkie living in Chicago. I have been given a fresh start friends! I'm more confident and outgoing and the farce of the loudmouth that i was before is less for overcompensating for being insecure and more because I'm feeling fab and flaunting it! I started this Journey at 395 lbs, Going in to surgery I was 377lbs and 7-weeks out I weigh 328lbs. i went from a US Sz 12 W shoe to a US Sz 11 W. I started an online store "Thickthrift" to sell my US Sz 28-26 clothes (and will continue adding as I grow out of more clothes) in an attempt to share my gently used, fashion forward plus clothes and save up for my new exercise clothes and future thinner wardrobe. I can taste the 200s coming and I am excited!
I auditioned for a woman's plus size performance troupe called "Thyke Troupe" and was accepted. i am also an official Blogger for "Plus Fashion Week Chicago"! So many things I would have never even considered pre-op because I now see how depressed I was.
No more CPAP. No More Type-2 Diabetes. No more constant swelling in my legs. I wore heels for the fist time in ages! I am more energetic and my will power is stronger than ever. Therapy and the support of my honey, family and friends has helped me increase my physical activity is up and my compulsive eating has been put to rest... minus the 2 ice cream snickers bars I have had, but I also am no purist, so that I will not even consider thise setbacks.
How are you doing in your journey towards a healthier you?

Day 11- Puree Diary
May 05, 2012
Since then I have been researching Every thing that I can eat and recipes that other sleevers lived for. They all seem to lack some flavor, so im about to use my Puerto Rican Skills to kick them all up a notch! I want to make sure that in addition to the recipes I find online I make some of these recipes culturally relevant and introduce you all to my wonderful carribean palette!
I will have to experiment for a few days so I'll be posting recipes I have tweeked and labeling Latino Inspired Purees, "LIP".
So far I have 30 experimental recipes and have tried 5 that have treated me right honey! I'll be formatting a new blog this evening where I can shere all of my reviews of my new recipes with you over the next two weeks!

Day 8 & Feeling Great!
May 03, 2012
Today was my first follow-up appointment since the day I was sleeved (4/25/12) at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago by Dr.Lutfi. His staff Nurse, Amyis an angel. She gently removed my staples and weighed me in. No pain at all. It pinched very lightly a few times but really the IV and Heperin shots were much worse. I now weigh 350 lbs. my highest weigh (that I know of) was 400 lbs, 377 post-op, 362 post pre-liquid diet, 358 lbs post surgery and 350 lbs 8 days post-op.
After my staples were removed and I was weighed, my wonderful nutritionist, Kim, came in asked me how my liquid diet was going. For those reading this who are pre-op, 3-4 days after surgery you will be on clear liquids followed by 3-4 days of "full" liquids. After sharing all was well between the liquids and sleevie wonder, I was approved to start my Purée diet for two weeks and then the coveted soft foods diet for two more weeks. This allows me to occasionally fantasize about yummy variations of veggie and meat skewers at summer bbqs and eventually colorful pasta salads made from the finest chicago farmers market ingredients I can find!
Thank goodness I have been researching vsg food blogs and the OH forums for yummy purée recipes and I'm no longer dreading these next two weeks! Looking forward to making masterpieces with fat-free refried beans and skim ricotta! It's better then slurping strained cream of mushroom while on full liquids! Do your research mi gente (my people)! That empty search engine bar is waiting to serve you up some knowledge. Before you panic about what to fill your new pouch with, google that shit. There are blogs, books, forums galore so go forth my child and learn about your new body. Well, I have to take my daily walk (2.2mi around the park across from my apartment complex) so I'll be blogging more this weekend. Until then, behave will ya?
XOXOXO,
JADA
