Finally back on track!

Aug 17, 2011

The entire month of June I was on a plateau.  Working out hard  6-7 days a week it was so frustrating.  I injured my back on July 1.  It turned out to be nerve damage.  There was no time at the gym and yoga was out of the question during that time.  I was sure I would gain weight but started losing instead.  Physical therapy and rest were all I was able to do.  It all really turned out to be a blessing.  Getting away from the manic workouts and the tight restriction on my calories seemed to end the plateau.  I will never go back to that way of living again.  It was just too hard on my body in so many ways.  I am back to the gym but I only go three times a week.  Starting slow is what was recommended by the doctor.  I have lost 5 -6 pounds in the last month and I feel good.

The MOST important success so far...

Mar 22, 2011

I got my blood work back yesterday.  I have been waiting for this day because I view it as a sort of report card for how well my body is doing and how much better my health REALLY is.  My triglycerides were 366 prior to surgery now they are down to 188!  My cholesterol was over 200 before now it is down to 167.  These things are as exciting to me as the weight I have lost.  I look forward to getting the triglycerides under the ideal number of 150.  I still have 50 pounds to lose so it may happen.

The life changes are amazing...

Mar 17, 2011

I am excited everyday by the great changes in my life.  Some changes are wonderful.  I am actually starting to jog for the first time in my life.  I never thought I would be able to.  It isn't a pretty site...not the least bit graceful BUT I am trying.  I just get on the treadmill for 20 minutes after my strength training and jog in a burst then walk for a minute, then jog.  I will work my way up to running longer and longer times.  With the good weather coming up I am trying to plan some hiking.  I love nature and there is a great way to enjoy it and get some exercise.  I really look forward to having new experiences since I am in better shape now.

YAY! 3 1/2 Pound loss in 7 days!

Mar 13, 2011

It has been quite an adjustment since the last band fill.  I finally know what restriction really is.  I have to eat more slowly then I ever imagined possible.  Since I am a former speed eater this has been my biggest challenge.

I usually only weigh in with my trainer every 14 days but due to a scheduling conflict I met with her after only 7 days.  I was sure I did not lose any weight.  My trainer was so excited that I had actually lost 3.5 lbs.!  I was shocked!  I work out every single day and for the first time I feel like the results are equal to the work I have put in.

11 Weeks post-op

Mar 06, 2011

I had my second bad fill on Monday 2/28/11.  I had lost 15 pounds since the last visit to the doctor (six weeks before)  and he was impressed.  He added 2 cc's to my band.  I got off the table and just happened to take a drink from my water bottle.  The water failed to go down.  The doctor decided to remove 1cc.  I am glad he did.  Since getting back to a regular diet I realize what restriction really is.  WOW!  I had been eating too fast and taking bites that were too big.  I really have to practice good eating habits.  I thought that I had been....but I was wrong.  I really have to work at getting the protein in everyday.

I have been happy with my weight loss but a little surprised that it is only a pound or two a week with my healthy eating and working out 7 days a week.  I work out very hard and I have a personal trainer that I meet with every two weeks to give me new tasks.  I just want to see the results more quickly.  I suspect that I will start seeing an increase in the weight loss because my food volume capacity  has decreased considerably.  I have to learn patience....I keep telling myself that I did not put the weight on overnight...it will not go away overnight.

Two weeks after surgery....

Dec 31, 2010

I have finally graduated to soft foods.  I love to be able to eat out.  Food selection is very challenging but at least I can go out again.

I have been to the gym every day except Christmas.  I can only do cardio at this point so I am wearing out the treadmills and elipticals.  I have gotten a bit bored with the same thing every day so I am doing more interval type of exercise.  I also tried the Procore machine today.  The trainers call it the sand digger because it feels like you are trying to run in sand.   I like this one and after a half mile on it the eliptical seems easy.  I did a total of 2.8 miles of cardio work today which is an all time high in the gym.

I have paid for 6 sessions with my old trainer.  As soon as I get the ok from Dr. Mo to start lifting again I will set up my first session.
