Question:
How long after surgery is the pain gone?

i am supposed to be going on a very relaxed camping trip(rv) 1 month after surgery. is this enough time to recover? i want to enjoy myself and not be in pain or risk injuring my stomach or insision.    — LaKeAffy (posted on March 30, 2002)

I can't imagine any reason why you couldn't do this in an RV. I went camping (tent) after 7 weeks so this should be a piece of cake for you. Bring what you need and bring something for pain just in case but I bet you will do very well. Have a good time!

It took me 6 weeks to feel decent and 8 weeks to feel good. That first month I was also very emotional my DR. said it was from the hormones being released during rapid weight loss. Just make sure you can rest when you need to and can take it easy and don't lift too much.

I truly think this depends on you as an individual. I could NEVER have gone anywhere that soon post op. Of course I had a very tough post op course. I had continuous dumping syndrome for two months. The pain wasn't too bad but camping just wouldn't have appealed to me much at that stage in the game. IT took me a good 10 weeks to feel like doing anything much at all. Now, four months post op I still tire very easily. Good luck to you!

Hi I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op (-26lbs).. I had the lap procedure and I am feeling great.. I haven't had any pain since about 4 days post-op. I could go camping or hiking or whatever.. I walk a mile a day, do any housework.. work ..etc. My husband (-35lbs) had his open surgery same day I did and he is just getting to the point where he is feeling comfortable and wanting to do things again. We both get tired easily but if you are going for a relaxing weekend you should be fine!! HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

I'm 23 years old and had the Lap RNY March 6, 2002. A week later I was driving and shopping, doing normal things, felt great really. I felt completely back to normal after 1 week, even went back to work. I have a desk job and work has been no problem. I think it all depends on the individual, your age, what kind of surgery you have, etc., At 3 weeks and 4 days I'm down 31lbs and have so much more energy. I feel great. Happy Easter everyone.

I had a lap RNY. I could have gone camping at 1 month, but I would have had to take it easy (no carrying firewood, etc.). I probably also would have slept more than everyone else. But I would have had fun!!!
