My surgery date is 5/26 too.  It has just been the last week and a half that I have firmly decided that I am making the right decision.  I accepted the fact that the surgery and everything around having the surgery is not going to be perfect.  Friends are trying to encourage me to go another diet with a dietitian.  I am self pay, and can I really afford to pay $17000 for this surgery--it should be going into my retirement account.  Moving out of the uncertianty phase helped me alot--it was driving me nuts!!

Good luck and keep in touch.

A New ME

Hi Wanda,

The gas pains are something else, but they should go away in a few days. Hope you can get some sleep.

I am so nervous, I can't sleep and I can't remember anything they told......geez....my nerves are shot, don't know what to expect, everyone is different....I feel I am 100% ready one day, and the next I don't want to do it...I am sure I am not alone in my thinking.

I'm right there with you sister!!!  I am having terrible head hunger......before surgery, my head and stomache were on the same page.....nooo more!!!  I am only 5 days out from surgery and want to eat badly.  I am still on my clear liquids until next Wednesday, but today I went out and bought low sugar fudgesicles and that seemed to help ALOT.   I really felt like eating something today that I shouldn't have, but didn't.   I am so looking forward to soft foods but have a ways to go.  The one thing that is amazing is that the hunger is so obviously in my head and I can't believe how great I feel with living on liquids for 2 weeks now.....

Topic: RE: When do you start soft bariatrics?

I'm kind of flipping out... I mean, why can I have cream of wheat before I can have a protein supplement?  It makes no sense compared to all that I have read... almost EVERY post-op diet I have seen has protein earlier and the soft foods wait until AT LEAST week 4.

My NUT is new.  She told me at our first meeting that she used to be the dietitian for the inmates in San Diego county.  We had this in common because I used to teach them computer skills.  It just makes me question her experience with bariatrics and where this post-op diet is coming from.

I don't want to got off to the wrong start, you know?  I'm scared and I don't know what to do.  I am thinking of following another diet.  I found Yale's, Brigman and Women's, and Duke's all online.  I definitely think that my protein should come in by day 7 and my soft food should wait until at least week four.  But I am also scared to NOT follow what my NUT says.  Am I nuts?

I'm so excited and a bit nervous.  It's about 5 days away.  I will be a Sleevster, is that right?  Dr. Toby Broussard from Edmond, Oklahoma will be my surgeon.  So, make some room on the looser bench for me, cause I'm on my way!!!!!

Thanks everybody
