Traci - Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Continue to remember how much this is going to help you and try not to be scared - all will be well and hopefully you'll feel so much better than you have been.
Please don't dwell on Jennifer's post - I know she meant well, but it was a scary post on the morning you're supposed to go.
Please let us know as soon as you can how things went. Let's hope this is a new beginning for you.
I did well again yesterday. I seem to have the eating somewhat under control. For me that means being able to eat something and not have to continue eating the rest of the day. It also means not obsessing about food all day - and that's a biggie for me!!
Hugs,
Nancy

Morning everyone (I'm not naming names - so I don't forget anyone again!
, sorry again Monna!)
Today is my iron infusion. YAY! But after Jennifer's post, I'm a little more apprehensive than I was. Yikes!! I know I'm in good hands - so I'm just standing in faith that all will go well and this will make me feel better. Her first one went well without a problem - so I'm going to believe that I will only need this one and that will get me good to go and that's it!!!!
So I'm taking some protein bars with me and some bottled water. They said they will get me a tray for lunch from the cafeteria - so at least they'll feed me.
I'm going to grab some things to read and I should be good.
Have a great day everyone. I'll try to check in when I get home. I should be back here before I have to go get the kids - so I'll let you know how it went.

Oh good lord in heaven - not sure I wanted to read this the morning of my infusion!
They are using Dextran on me - so see if your insurance will cover that one. Yes, they are doing a test dose and bless my doctor's sweet heart, he wrote out very detailed instructions for the gal doing the infusion. She does them all the time and was surprised as apparently he's the first doctor to do this.
He's just extra cautious I guess with my last week's episode with my heart.
So is it normal to do it one week, then go back again the next week and do it again? One time didn't get your levels up enough I guess? Did you feel any better after the first dose? If so, how long did it take you to feel better?
I've never had an iron infusion in my life - so have no idea how I'll respond. I'm praying that I do well and I feel much better afterwards.

Monna - Please forgive me, I knew you read the posts and I did leave your name out. Chalk it up to menopause brain. I'm so sorry. I didn't purposely exclude you.
Topic: Bad experience with Iron Infusion today! (long)
I had or I guess I should say attempted to get my second Infed iron infusion today. I had a test dose last week and was monitored at the hospital and then given the full dose. I had no reactions.
Fast forward to this afternoon, I get to the chemo center. The nurse finally gets the IV and then starts the infusion. Within minutes I felt nauseated. As soon as I realized I was going downhill I called for the nurse. Within seconds, my ears were ringing, I had severe nausea, shortness of breathe, was seeing stars, etc. All I remember hearing was the nurse yelling get the doctor. He took one look at me and asked if my chest was so red when I got there. I glanced down and it was more red than any sunburn I ever had. They pumped me full of steriods and then asked if it would be possible to get a ride home so they could give me a full dose of benedryl. I was now breathing ok, but could feel hives all over my back. Once they got that in the hives went away. They pumped me full of fluids and took my vitals every few minutes. Once the initial reaction was under control, I began to shiver uncontrollably. My teeth were chattering so hard, I was afraid I'd break a tooth. He was going to give me demoral, but the nurse asked him to hold off a few minutes and we covered me with about 3 fleece blankets. It took about half an hour to get the shaking under control.
So now they are going to appeal to my insurance company again, to approve me Ferrlicit since I had a reaction to the Infed. I know my insurance will deny it. I'm not sure what direction we will go. With my ferritin a 2, we need to do something. So the plan is to call insurance Monday. Insurance will say they have 30 days to make a decision. I'm pretty sure they will deny it again as they consider ferrelcit an experimental drug although it's been used since the late 90's. I'm not sure if there are other types out there to try. I guess it's back to Google for me.
In the meantime, they want me to come back next week to try this a little differently. This time they will give me the steriods and benedryl before staring the iron. They will do another test dose to see if they can tolerate it. I'm really scared for this next round.
Traci, I know you have your infusion tomorrow. Please make sure they do a test dose before starting full strength. I hope your treatment goes better than mine. I didn't post this to scare you, but had told you I'd keep you posted on my progress.

HI there everyone!!
I'm here, delayed but here. Work has been super busy so not much time to get on here. I'm doing pretty good eating wise today. So I'm happy with that. As far as the fires, well our state is on fire or at least was. It's getting better in my area, and worse for some. The other day the smoke was so thick you couldn't even see the sun. And the air quality is NOT good! But we are hanging in. Our home is not in danger, but many I know are. Keep them in your prayers. Take care!!

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Hope it makes you feel better.
See, I read these posts.

Topic: RE: Rice Protein
Yes, I have tried Lactaid. There is a milk (cow's) that is supposedly lactose free--still can tolerate because of the whey. On another board (not OH related, but food allergies) there are those who also cannot even tolerate casein. So far, I'm okay with that component of milk. Some days I have diarrhea and think I had done fine the day before. When I review things I had, and really look at the ingredients, I find there is some component of milk.
I have ordered the rice protein. Hope I do well with it. I am planning to have PS in January and everyone on that board says to be sure to get lots of protein pre-and post-op. This is my only hope. There is a brand of soy protein powder that has no whey, but it is disgusting to me.
I still prefer this to the living death I had before WLS.
Love you all. You are so supportive.

Morning everyone
Is there ANYONE else here reading beside Nancy, Denise, Michelle and me?! Anyone at all?! Hello - speak up please?! We'd love for you to join us?!
I've heard that about the pouch test Nancy - that after the first couple of days, you just aren't really hungry. I guess that's a good thing - makes it easier to stick with if you can get to that point. Are you weighing every day, or do you wait until the end of the 5 days to weigh and see how you did?
How are you doing with the pouch test Denise? Still sticking with it?
Michelle - how are YOU? Are you still safe from those fires out there in CA?
I'm feeling so-so. Tired and some chest pains; but I'm doing okay. My iron infusion is tomorrow. I have to be at the hospital at 8am and I'll be there until around 2pm or so. I'm really hoping and praying that this will make me feel a ton better. Couldn't make me feel worse, right?!
I got my grocery shopping done this morning and my dogs dropped off at the groomer. I'm checking message boards, then I'm going to rest a bit and see what else I feel like doing today. I need to rotate some laundry through. I do some - rest and try to do some more. Frustrating, but it's how I have to do it. Hopefully that will all change after tomorrow and I can get back to my full-on multi-tasking busy self.
Have a great day everyone!!
Traci

How's everyone doing? Denise, how did Day 1 go? Traci, how are you feeling today?
I had a pretty good day yesterday. As hungry as I was the day before, yesterday I could have gone the whole day without eating. Funny how that happens.
Yesterday I had about 700 calories, 75 protein. Lost about .4 lbs. I've been trying to exercise at least 30 - 40 minutes per day. I did the WATP yesterday, and will go to the gym at work this morning and walk on the treadmill.
All in all I'm feeling pretty good right now....healthier and more in control than I have been in a long time.
Hugs,
Nancy
