Your ferritin was a 2 ?!!!!!! Wowzers!! How was your hemoglobin, hemitocrit, iron binding, iron saturation and all that? I'm glad the infusions have helped you. Will you have to go every so often to have those, or are you going to try to see if you can use pills now to maintain that? Yes, I have read that low iron can cause chest pains, but am not sure if it would cause the enzyme in my blood that is indicative of heart attack or heart damage - such as I had on Thursday when I went to the ER. Maybe it can? I'm not sure. I have awesome insurance, and they have paid for everything - never questioned a thing. So I'm not worried about the iron infusions - I'm just waiting for the doc to calculate how much I need and to get the orders done and for me to get it scheduled with outpatient at the hospital. I'm glad you're feeling better Jennifer.

Traci, In your investigations of your low iron, did you find information about iron deficiency causing chest pains and are your doctors looking at that? I know that was one of the symptoms listed during my research. I never experienced them but had just about every other symptom. My ferritin level is/was a 2. We discovered this in June and fought with insurance until this past week to get my iron infusions approved. I had my first infusion on Wednesday and am already feeling a difference. The energy is coming in burst right now but I've got more energy than I have in months. I actually woke up on Thursday and wasn't wanting to go back to sleep immediately.

You go girl! There's another lady on the Missouri board also starting the 5 day pouch test today. Don't forget to check out the soup recipes that you can have for days 1 & 2, those will probably really help you get through these first two days. Traci

Topic: Following Nancy's Lead-- Day 1
Hey all... Well... today is Day 1 of the 5 day pouch test. I've got to do this. I'm slipping with commitment. When I had the surgery, I did'nt believe the post op grads and their stories of weight creep. I thought, oh... you guys are just whining. The surgery will fix everything, permanently. WRONG!! It's a daily vigil... with good days and bad. Hopefully with this plan, I'll get back on the right track. Keeping in touch with the July babies helps too! I bet if I had continued my daily vigil on board, I would not have gained, but probably maintained. So... here's my commitment to myself to once again post with my family (you guys) here daily. The good and the bad, the pretty and the ugly! Hugs to all! ME

Morning everyone It's a chilly 49 degrees this morning in Missouri - how's the weather where you are? I've had my morning protein shake and early round of vitamins. I'm off to the grocery store today, while my hubby and kiddos work on cleaning house. Depending on my energy level, I'll come home and join them. I can't wait to get that iron infusion this next week. So far, no chest pains today - but I had them off and on all day yesterday. So not sure what's up with that. A little worrisome. How did everyone else do this week? Did you stay on track with your eating, exercise and supplements? Do you do better or worse on the weekends with staying on track? Have a great one. Traci

Denise and Traci said it all very well. I get to feeling sorry for myself because I can't eat anything that has any dairy in it--so I get in the pity me mode. You are such an inspiration to all of us, Nancy. Hang in there and trust your higher power and you will do fine. We were told before our surgery we would have to alter our lives--guess that meant we have watch what we eat the rest of our lives. Monna

Oh dear, Traci!!!! I feel so bad for you! How scary was all of that? I hope they can find a definitive answer for you - I mean, did you or did you not have a heart attack? I would think that would be an important piece of information to have. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I hope you know that I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs (an extra long one!), Nancy

Great job Nancy!!! Well, I spent yesterday afternoon in the ER. I was having numbness, tingling and some chest pains: they thought I was having a heart attack (I didn't think so) - I wasn't officially. I just got home from my PCP this morning and I had trace amounts of some enzyme they use to see if you are having a heart attack. My EKG was fine and I was within acceptable limits of this enzyme - so technically, no heart attack; but, some enzyme is suspicious. Sooooo - not sure. My PCP is calculating how much iron I need for an infusion and is writing up the orders for that and will call me once they get that done and I'll perhaps get that done this next week? As soon as I possibly can - that's for sure. My Vit D3 levels were up to normal, only my Vit D2 levels were still low. He's going to have me start on two B12 shots per month instead of just one. Everything else in my labs (besides the iron issues) looks good. I'm exhausted and need a nap. Other than that - I'm great!!

Well, I'm still hanging on with the 5DPT! This is the last day, but I think I'm going to follow it through the weekend - just as a safeguard. Days at home can be difficult. I've lost another pound, so that's a total of 8 lbs. down since Monday. I sure can't complain about that!! How's everyone else doing? Hugs, Nancy
