Topic: RE: Can we ALL check in!!!
I have been so busy that I haven't even checked the board for a while. I am back working 3 days a week as an RN--that is after being on disability for 5 years. I am so healthy now, my cardiologist says I should be a poster child for WLS. My heart is in great shape and I am down to 4 prescription medications and hope to have 2 more gone by the end of the year. I have applied for the director of the nursing program and the local junior college--won't know anything until June. My weight hovers around 194-200. Would really like to get the last 40-45 pounds off, but I am happy where I am--it is so much better than where I was. I think I would lose 10-15 pounds if I could have a paniculectomy and bat wing removal. I am going with my daughter as support to a seminar in Reno next week. Her primary has recommended her for WLS. My life has been so blessed by all of you. Thank you for your support through the past few years and the support I know that will continue. Those of you who still seem stuck--hang in there. You are doing better than you were and better than if you had not had WLS. Monna 389/198/159

Hey there, well this week I haven't lost anyting yet. Geez I wi**** were as easy as it once was. My eating is still great. My slip ups are happening less often, which is a major accomplishment for me. I'm really trying to not to focus too much on the scale or I get obsessed. I've done really great this week with exercise. Hopefully I can stay on track with it. I get distracted from it quite easily, but feel so much better when I actually exercise! Well have a great week everyone. Pam, thank you for keeping this going!!!! Michelle

Welcome back! As you can see, this board really doesn't do a whole lot any more. The only reason I even bother coming back each week is because if I don't, I'll be back at my starting weight in no time. Struggling sucks, doesn't it? Pamela

I know, I'm way behind. I've been busy AND sick! But not sick enough to keep from eating. I saw 224 on the scale last Wednesday. It's not that today I bought a really good bike last week, and it rides very smooth. It's one of those Raleigh comfort bikes for women...you sit upright (if you want), you step through the bar instead of over, and you still have 21 gears to choose from. I'm supposed to be riding with my dad and sister's family a lot this summer on some great St. Louis trails, and I'm excited. I really bought it for camping to keep up with my daughter...but now she can't keep up with me! I broke down and joined Weigh****chers last night. Again. And this time, I'm doing the points system instead of the core (which didn't work out so well). I even bought the little points booklets to make life (and eating out) easier. Do you know how many things you can eat for "free?" I think I can do this! Well, all for now. I hope everyone is hanging in there! Pamela somewhere between 230 and 224...it's hard to tell when I'm puffed up like a water balloon!

Topic: RE: getting to know you!!!!!!
There is a MO board here at OH. At one time, I was very active there, but those folks seem to have moved on. I've tried posting some to get to know the new folks, they just seem to post to themselves and that's about it. Time is short for every one I suppose, me included. So I have to be very selective about where I post and what I get involved in. If something isn't a good fit, I move on.

Topic: RE: WAKING UP HUNGRY??
Hi Beth, Are you still having this problem? I've personally found that the ONLY thing that will make me feel hungry are carbs. Whether it's a complex carb found in beans or whole wheat bread, or the simple carbs in a piece of candy - the effect is the same... Hunger. Other than that, it's difficult to say. Could it be emotional difficulties or stress driving you to feel cravings and hunger? Are you waking because you're hungry, or are you waking and noticing you feel hungry? I give you lots of credit for not giving in to the hunger. It can be very tough sometimes. If you are feeling especially weak and wanting to give in to the hunger, try to have a protein item... That will at least keep you from having an insulin spike which would only make you hungry again in a few hours... Irene

Topic: RE: Quitting smoking!!
Hi Beth! I'm sending good vibes your way for the quitting thing... Been there, done that way too many times myself. The first time I quit was easy. Should have left it alone because it took me 12 years and more attempts than I can even count before I was able to finally quit the second time. That was about 14 years ago now. But I try to remember that I'm really only one puff away... Hang in there. I does get easier with time... Try to keep those hands busy.... Keep telling yourself that you ARE A NON-SMOKER.... Irene

Hi Tara, Good to hear from you. Glad that you're doing well. I'm about the same. My weight is about 140. Still waiting for the right time for plastic surgery. First my son and now my husband can't believe the way I used to look. They have really gotten used to the thinner me... I'm still working for my surgeon and love my job. It's a thrill to be able to meet people that are where I was 3 years ago and to be able to fight for them to have surgery. To be part of their journey. It helps ME. Keeps me in touch with where I was not *that* long ago. It's also part of why I encourage people to find and attend a support group. It's SO easy to forget how awful I felt 3 years ago - I've gotten used to feeling good and it's easy to just take it for granted sometimes... I don't ever want to forget! Hope all my July '04 surgery buddies are well! Irene
