Topic: RE: Calorie intake each day?
Celeste,
You should be getting between 1000 and 1200 calories a day. If you stay in the 700-800 range your body won't come out of starvation mode and your weight loss will decrease a bunch. It sounds funny, but you have eat to lose weight. It's just a matter of eating the right things. When I'm short on calories for the day I'll add an apple and some peanut butter as a before bed snack. I also head for the yogurt or some fruit.
Good luck!

Topic: RE: Problems with BM'S
Belinda,
This is one of those things that changes after surgery. You eat less, so you go less.
There are a number of other factors that influence this as well. Calcium is one item that causes constipation and so is a lack of fiber. If you go check the library you'll find a number of different suggestions regarding this topic. One that seems to work for most people is adding flax seed to your diet. You get them fresh and grind up a tablespoon or two a day and mix it in with your food. It's full of fiber and helps most people get regular naturally. You may want to give it a try. Do a search on Just Tooter because she is the flax queen and has answered all kinds of questions on the topic.
Hope this helps!

Topic: RE: protein Question
That is the protein drink manufacturer's note to body builders. I drink mine for breakfast. Sometimes I have one in the afternoon also. Gosh, if I had lost 123, I would be past goal! I am puddling along at 70 lbs. and on a bit of a plateau! Congrats to you, Mark

Hi;
I'm the same way. I spoke with my WLS Doc at my last visit and he suggested stool softeners. I have exlax at home and usually once a week; I take them. If your taking Iron that may also cause issues. Pre-Op; i was regular usually once sometimes 2x a day. But now.... well, everyother day is becoming the norm.

Topic: Problems with BM'S
I never had this problem before , but I haven't had a BM in about 3 days I'm usually very regular always once a day usually 2 times a day. Should I take a laxitive?????

Topic: RE: protein Question
If you only have ten pounds more to lose and you are still losing three pounds a month you will be there in another 3 months!
I suggest you eat the fruit and cottage cheese prior to your work-out and the shake after. If I remember right the physiologic advantage of drinking it right afterwards is that muscle fibers are stressed and traumatized right after exercising and therefore more likely to take up the protein and use it to build more muscle.

That is too little if anything. 1000-1200 would be better.

Topic: RE: Calorie intake each day?
I average anywhere from 650 to 1000 calories. I think we are supposed to be between 1000 and 1200 by now. They say if we increase our intake that we have a better chance of losing.

Topic: Calorie intake each day?
I am curious if you were told about how many calories you should be consuming each day? I average about 700-800 each day at 7 months out and I am wondering if that is too much or what? Any ideas?
Thanks!
