I decided not to take the diuretic I was contemplating and weighed in at 218.7 pounds--less than 2 pounds away from the century mark, but Dr. Smith still said I was ahead of profile. By the way, he uses a BMI of 25 for ideal weight--which makes sense as we know our bones are denser than average due to our history of morbid obesity. He didn't think I was taking enough supplements at first but my labs were all at the upper limit of normal so he said that was fine--I think it is because I eat so much
healthy food--lots of eggs (eggs are chock-full of vitamins as well
as protein), yogurt, red meats, and leafy green and bright red
veggies. And he was thrilled that I was exercising five times a week.
I am a happy camper. Wednesday I took my nieces to Dollywood and
walked all over all day without any pain or shortness of breath and
only normal fatigue at the end of the day. Every day one or more of
my patients or associates comments on how well I look. I am so
grateful I heard about the DS and about Dr. Smith and then had the
resources to self-pay when my insurance declined to cover this life-
saving, life-enhancing surgery!

Topic: RE: Help, not loosing weight like I should =o(
Hi Annette,
I'm 6 months post op, I had my op same date as you, and I have to say everything has been great, there's been a couple of hiccups along the way, trying to eat too much too soon and eating the wrong food too soon all my own fault, I've lost nearly 6 stones in the past 6 months, I lost 4 stone in the first 3 half months, but things have slowed down, just like my surgeon said it would, I think you have done really well to loose 5o lbs, not everyone will loose the same weight over the same time, so give yourself a big pat on the back and be proud of what you have accomplished so far, having said that, if you don't start to control your eating habits (junk food) now, you may suffer for it in the long term, your body can't be getting the nutricians it needs with junk food, and as everyone knows junk food is high in calories, and it's the amount of calories that goes into the body that makes us put weight on, especially if we don't burn most of them off through exercise, it would be such a waste if you didn't try that little bit harder to watch what your eating.
Even though I can only eat a small portion for each meal I still make sure it's healthy food, I try to have a glass of milk as soon as I get up, I take a multivitamin tablet, 1 cod-liver oil tablet and evening primrose oil tablet with my milk, I only have 1 slice of bread (toasted) in the morning for breakfast with anything on it, but that's my lot as far as bread is concerned, it fills me up really fast, I don't see the point in trying to eat a sandwich during the day, as I'm not getting the nutricians I need, for lunch I have a chopped salad with either chicken or prawns or tuna, for afternoon snack I always have chopped fresh fruit salad, then for my evening meal it's usually half of one of those ready meals, (I can only manage to eat half of one) i.e. Cottage pie, vegetable bake, or some sort of fish dish, I don't cook much as there's only me to cook for, but sometimes I'll do a small amount of stir fry veggies and add a bit of chilli sauce, I don't eat sweet puddings or ice cream or cakes etc., I try to eat as healthy as possible, I feel it's the least I can do after what I feel has been to take the easy option having by-pass surgery.
I say easy option, simply because the will power needed to loose weight has been taken out of my hands and I have no choice but to eat very little, how easy is that, I truly admire and give praise were deserved to the people out there who have managed to loose weight through a calorie controlled diet, I only wish I could have done it, (would have saved me a few grand at least)
Hope I've helped you a little Annette, and keep up the good work

I love spicy foods and have only had one problem with them since surgery. I work down the stree from a Thai food restaraunt and have become addicted to the Thai basil chicken. It makes my nose run but is soooooo good.

Topic: RE: I lost my daughter to the surgery weight loss
I think the last post again was negative. For people to make such a statement and judgement on what i said is a show their character without even knowing me or my daughter. Knowing my daughter for 21 years and knowing for a fact that her being thin now is the sole cause of her change and outlook and the way she acts and treats people, It is not only her family that is disappointed but family friends and friends she walked away from. Saying bad things does not take cahones, It again is an act of immaturity.
The majority of the readers did understand what I was saying and was not out to down lesbians or anything like that. The combination of things she has put together such as crack use is what has led her family to feel betrayed and disrespected as we all stood beside her during her times of obesity and we paid for her surgery, and anything else to get her through the surgery. Only to have it shoved down our throats by her new thin personality.
With her father and I being into bodybuilding all of our lives do you think we have a right to be rude and disrespectful because we are not heavy, never have been and are in excellent physical shape. NO IT DOESNT and we never have. That is why it is so hard for us to understand why being thin would make you feel you can mistreat anyone at anytime.

Cindy;
sorry to hear of this. I have been following Lauren's web page as we both had surgery in November with Dr. Coirin. I have not seen her at any of the support group meetings I have been to. Do you know if she has gone to any? They are a major part of this life changing event. I hope all works out well.

I am not a doctor, but if it doesn't bother your pouch, than it probably will be fine. You might want to call you nutritionist just to be sure.
I wish that I could eat spicy food, but it really upsets my stomach.
