So sorry you feel like you have lost your daughter. I know from experience that sometimes the hurt feelings are underneath and we did not have the courage to say a word about anything being large as we were. This surgery does give Self Confidence back to us. I am proud for the wonderful surgeons that give us the chance to bring the best out in us. I am truly sorry for your loss, but why punish others who might gain so much from a chance to have this wonderful surgery. It has so many more plusses than negatives. Keep trying to get the daughter back you say you have lost. Best of Luck, Debbie 11-17-03 80 pounds gone forever..............

Topic: I lost my daughter to the surgery weight loss
Lauren who had her surgery in november of 2003, Has lost over 80 pounds and down to a size 6-7. But what was also lost was my daughter and her good outlook on life, fun loving, fun to be around. Once she lost her weight she became self absorbed, distant and the only important thing in life was HER, HERSELF and no one else, not even her beautiful 4 year old daughter. She started compromising her morales and standards and started slipping lower and lower into a life of deceit, lies, lesbianism and drugs. I so regret the day i told her of the surgery and made it possible for her to have the surgery as I no longer have a daughter. She is lost in the world of being thin and self gratification. I have come to the conclusion that the psychiatrist need to do a more thorough mental examination or maybe make them come back several times. Working for a health insurance company I am now going to actively push for stricter guidelines for the surgery

Thanks for your support, Laura. Someone on another board told me that the docs don't care what # of pounds we have lost, but rather that at 6 months they want us to have lost 50% of our excess pounds. That is pre-op weight minus ideal weight (the weight that would give you a BMI of 23) to get excess pounds, then divide actual weight loss by excessive pounds at the beginning to get your percentage. Figuring it that way: 317 pre-op pounds minus ideal weight of 135 = 182, then actual weight loss of 97 divided by 182 = 0.534, or 53.4%. Guess I am doing okay. Looks like you are, too--assuming that you are my height, you have lost 63.5% of your excess weight. Good job. Carolyn Moore DS 11/03/03 317 pre-op/220 current/150 goal

Hi, I can really relate to what you are saying. I will be at six months on the 10th and have only lost 65 pounds. I know others have lost a lot more than that at this point. I am at the 22/24 - 18/20 size mark and seem to be stuck and I am running out of clothes for the summer. I want to buy some clothes but have been told not to buy too much as I will continue to lose and will be wasting my money. I think we are doing well and hope to continue to lose even if it isn't as fast as I would like it to be. I also have those feelings that I will never reach a smaller size. I think that is our heads playing tricks on us because we have been heavy for so long. I wish you continued success in your loss. Darlene

Topic: RE: HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?
I had my WLS on Nov. 11th (399) and I'm down 116 (283), but my BMI was 72. I understand the frustration, as I figured I would loose at least another 25 lbs this past month and only lost 10. But listening to others, it sounds as we will all loose the weight differently. I think you are doing great, don't give up. REMEMBER this "How much did you weigh at this time last year?" This is a statement I keep hearing from my family!!

Congratulations on your weight loss!!!! We had the same surgery date!! I haven't weighed in yet this week since I am traveling. You are doing fantastic!!! 83 lbs is awsome!! It does s*ck to be between sizes. My goal for 6 months was 71 lbs (will take me out of obese to just being overweight on the BMI charts), and I am at 67 lbs. I doubt I made it, but I guess close enough. Laura 11/4/03 240/173/135

Does it really matter that much??? 97-98 lbs is the same as 100 lbs in the whole scheme of things. I remember I used to do this before weigh****chers meetings along with fasting, etc. then I would go back to old habits, and before the next meeting do the same thing again. It is hard to get off that roller coaster. Congratulations on your weight loss. You are doing great!!! Good luck in whatever you decide to do . Laura -67 11/4/03 240/173/135

Don't beat yourself up, some lose slower than others. Use your tool and go back to basics. If it still isn't working, contact your surgeon for a consultation. Laura -67 11/4/03 240/173/135
