Topic: 6 Months Post-Op
Well, today is my 6 month anniversary. What a difference 6 months makes. As of today I am down 83 lbs (268 down to 185) I spent an entire month with out losing a pound, and then in the last couple of days I have lost 5 lbs. I have mixed emotions about where I am. I was really hoping to have been down 100 lbs by this date, but it wasn't meant to be. I know I look and feel 100 times better then I did 6 months ago, I also know I still have a long time to go. It's harder then I thought. I have my good days and bad days in terms of eating. However, I didn't gain all my weight in 6 months, so I shouldn't expect to lose it in 6 months. On a whole, I feel like I am in the average of other women who have had WLS, so that gives me comfort. My biggest complaint is clothes. I am on the border of where I can shop. I can buy 14-16 at stores like Lane Bryant (some 18's in shirts still fit), yet I have found a couple Misses 16-18's that fit too. It just really depends. I will be so much happier when I can go to town in a regular size store, just a matter of time! Sometimes I don't think it will ever happen, but I don't give up! I guess if I never lose another pound, this still would have been worth it! Anyway, I know I don't post here a lot, but I thank you guys for the posts, and the encouragement!

Topic: Should I cheat?????
Okay, here is the situation. I wanted to and would still love to be down 100 pounds when I go for my 6-month post-op visit on Friday. Today at my official weigh-in for the month at Curves I was down 97 pounds (and 65 inches). I am not likely to lose the last three pounds in the next three days, unless.....I could take a diuretic (water pill) on Thursday and Friday mornings and temporarily lose some water weight to get me to that goal. I have access to the pills, that is no problem. Using them for two days will make me pee a lot but won't endanger my health in any way. Should I do it? Or should I just settle for being 97-98 pounds down for the big check- up? Carolyn Moore DS 11/03/03 317/220

Ok. Not entirely sure here WHY...but I know it works! Water seems to make the fat flow out better (at least, this is my theroy). Aim to drink about 100 oz (or more) a day. It can be water, iced tea, hot tea, crystal light..etc. Watch the fat content in the foods you eat. They can sneak up on you. Protein protects us from losing muscle mass INSTEAD of fat. It also gives our bodies energy it needs to survive (since we aren't eating a whole lot of calories...aim to be around 800 at this point). I will tell you that I'm getting in around 40 grams of protein a day (which is about 10 grams less than my surgeon recommends). I eat 1-2 meals of red meat (high protein, but lean cuts) (like steak no ground beef) a week and a lot of veggies and lunchmeats (like turkey). I live on cheeses...all kinds...just crave them. I drink about 80-100 oz of tea a day (can't drink water without getting sick). I execise about 4-5 days a week, walking for about 40 minutes (usually twice a week I would consider an actual hike, up over the hills and woods near my house). And I swing on the swings at the play ground (now that I don't fear their collapse under my weight!) Water I believe is key to weight loss. Hell, to be honest I think you COULD (though its not healthy!!!!) eat crappy foods all day long as long as you drank a ton of water, you'd still lose weight! I am down 94 lbs and 50 from goal.

I have issues too with a lot of the stuff that is so good for us! Yet the junk stuff goes down without problem. Go figure. Sigh. The best advice I can give you is to just keep trying new good foods. Try new ways of cooking the stuff. And be prepared to face facts...some of the good stuff will never be enjoyed again. I had to admit...I was in love with chicken. Now...no more. I can't even smell it without wanting to gag. Also...for healthy snacking...stick to low fat stuff like prezels (some have high protein content, so check packages!) and good fat stuff like nuts. I found these corn chips (like fritos) that are only 5 grams of fat a serving (.5 of that is saturated) and only 80 calories and somehting like 8 grams of protein per 1 oz serving. These make for a good snack when I just need to feel like I'm being bad! -94 lbs and 50 from goal LAP RNY 11.11.03

Hi Annette I think you really need a big ((((HUG)))). Then you need to get yourself in gear and go thru your house and throw out all your junk food If it's not there then you will not eat it. Also you really need to see a nutritionist. How much are you eating at one sitting? Are you snacking thru the day? Also are you getting enough vitamins? Try going out and buying chicken breasts and veggies and living off that for a few days until you get all those bad carbs out of your system. If you need to talk then just e-mail me your number and I will give you a call. ((((HUGS)))) Dawn

Hi I haven't been here in along time. Shame on me, this is what I need support. I know I can hear you all now, I have no one to blame but me. However, I just can't seem to loose the weight. My surgery was Nov. 4th I think can't even remember. GOSH, anyway, I have lost 50lbs. I know that is good but it seems I loose what I am going to loose right after I see my Doctor. Then when I go back in 6 to 9wks. I get this look like you should have lost more. I walk and I have alot of energy I drink the water. The food is a problem, can't seem to eat much of anything good. I can eat junk food and nothing bothers me. I don't want this to fail,or should I say I don't want to fail myself. I would really like to know what you all eat so maybe I can try something that I haven't tried and it will stay down. I appreciate you all listening to me whine, sorry. Thanks and God Bless you all. Topic: RE: QUESTION? DO ANY OF YOU,HAVE PROBLEM WITH OCCASIONAL VOMITING?
Hi Sue. I had my surgery on 11/17/03. I have 85 lbs. off by now. I do still have incidences of vomiting and mostly it is when I start producing lots of saliva and it fills my pouch. I am constantly spitting to not get sick. I think that it is pretty normal to still vomit from time to time, so don't worry about it.

Hi. I can sympathesize with what you are saying. I am at 5 1/2 months and I have 85 off. I have friends that were at 100 or more off by 5 months and I'm not there yet. What I found is that I CANNOT compare myself to anyone but me. This is the biggest thing I learned that has helped me keep my sanity and maintain a positive attitude. Do yourself a favor and don't compare yourself to others because it will just put you in a negative frame of mind when you don't think you are doing as well. Drink protein EVERY day, exercise, drink at least 48-64 oz. of water and eat healthy and as long as you are doing this, the weight WILL come off. I know that I am doing what I need to do and that in time, the lbs. will come off. It's about believing in what you are doing and being committed to it...in the end, it comes down to believing in YOU!! Take care and I hope this helps! Karen

I went on vacation two weeks ago, ate bad stuff, lots of carbs and several desserts, gained a pound. Got back, weighed myself, got the bad news, resolved to be good--no sweets, low carbs, back to exercising 5 times a week--and lost 3 pounds in five days. Do what you are supposed to do and it will happen. Carolyn Moore DS 11/03/03 317/222
