I guess that I need to check with my doc too. I have been craving salt like crazy. I suck on ranch flavored sunflower seeds to take care of the cravings. I hope my BP is ok. I guess that I will ask my hubby the nurse to check it out. I hope everything gets better for you soon. ((((HUGS)))) Dawn

Topic: RE: obsessed with scale
Hi Jennifer. Wow, I can REALLY understand what you are going thru. I am obsessed about the scale too. What I have done is resolved myself to only weigh 2 x a month...the 1st and the 17 (my anniversary date). This way, I'm not getting depressed everyday and also negating all the positive things I have accomplished. We need to find joy in all the steps to our goal, not just when we reach our ultimate goal. Remember this and try to find the accomplishments that are NOT scale oriented. And also, limit your weigh-ins. Remember, if you rely on the scale for your positive affirmation, you can be disappointed so easily because your body is trying like heck to hold onto its precious pounds. Just keep up the good work and look at the positive changes that don't involve the scale and just be disciplined about not weighing all the time. Hope this helps! Take care...Karen

Topic: RE: Exercise Advice, How much are you doing?
Hi Darlene. I agree with the replies you are getting. I go to the Y 4-5 times per week and the key is to go BEFORE work. That way, you are energized to start your day. Remember, this is YOUR time and you need to be true to yourself and YOUR needs right now, especially right now. Take care! Karen

Hi Crystal. I had my surgery on 11/17/03. I have lost about 85 lbs. and I was hoping to be at -100 by now. I know how you feel, but I have decided to not let the scale rule me. I now only weigh myself twice a month and am trying to focus on the positives that don't involve the scale. I work out like a fiend, so I know that I am gaining muscle mass and that is part of the problem and eventually, things will start moving again for me. Hope this helps you. Take care.. Karen

What my surgeon and I think a lot of other surgeons as well go by is not the absolute # of pounds lost but the percentage of excess weight you have lost. The formula to figure that is: Pre-op weight minus ideal weight (BMI of 23) equals excess weight THEN # of pounds lost divided by excess pounds at beginning equals percent of excess weight lost At six months we should have lost 50% of our excess pounds. As an example--my pre-op weight was 317, my ideal weight (I am 5'4") is 135, and I have now lost 94 pounds. So... 317 - 135 = 182 (excess pounds at beginning) 94/182 = 51.6% excess pounds lost Check your numbers and see if that could be what he/she meant. To keep losing at the best rate--avoid sugar, limit carbs, and EXERCISE at least 30 minutes most days of the week. Carolyn Moore DS 11/03/03 highest 323/pre-op 317/current 223/goal 150

Hi Crystal, I had my surgery a week before you and have only lost 65 pounds. My last visit to my surgeon he said how come you haven't lost more. I said to him, that's why I am here I don't know why. I have tried all kinds of combinations to shake things up to try to lose more faster. But I think my body just works slower than others. I do know I need to exercise more and will be joining a work out facility soon. But I think everyone is different with different body types. There are a lot of people who have had the surgery the same month and have lost more or less then us. Sounds like we are all doing good as long as we are losing and not gaining. Keep up the good work Darlene RYN 309/244/???

Topic: RE: HOW MUCH ARE YOU ALL EATING???
We are pretty much the same. I eat 2 meals most days and eat primarily protein. I try and stay away from anything fried. I also stay away from most starches as they tend to irrritate my pouch. If I want sweet (which is rare these days) I have a sf drink of some sort. Sometimes I have the Dole diced pears but most of the time the kids eat them before I get to. I do not measure either and do not count calories or carbs. I used to track everything on fitday but it made me obsess about food too much. I enjoy food, but I look at it as fuel instead of entertainment now.
