Topic: Update on hair loss prevention program
If you have been reading these posts for a while you may have seen my earlier post about the program I was using to prevent excessive hair loss. If you missed it, do a site search for "telogen" and it should come right up. Basically it had three parts: Getting in all your protein (60 grams or more) every day, increasing fluid intake to avoid ketosis (ketones are toxins) and adding zinc and selenium supplements. I am now 5 and 1/2 months out and am happy to report that this program has worked well for me! I had no hair loss at all until 4 months, after that I was combing out a bit more hair than usual for about 4 weeks but had no noticeable thinning. Now I am back to combing out the normal, minimal amounts of hair after each shampooing. I plan to continue the program at least through the first year but have stopped crushing the zinc and selenium tablets. I was a test group of one so can't promise that everyone will have such good results but there are good physiological reasons why it should help most if not all. If you have any additional experience using this program please let me know. Carolyn Moore DS 11/03/03 317/226

Topic: How long was your plateau??
Hi, I just got off a plateau and i was just wondering how long my fellow november buddies went of their plateau's?? it took almost 2 weeks to start losing again and i thought i was going to go out of my mind!! i had been doing great up to the 100 lbs lost mark then bam nothing but i just stepped on the scale this morning and am finally down 2 more lbs. to a total of 102 lbs lost !! i increased my protein and liquid and i work out 4 times a week at curves , seemed to help. also, my hair loss is slowing down finally, i thought i was going to go bald there for a while. anyhoo, just thought i would throw this one out there, let me know any secrets you might have to have it not last so long next time. Topic: RE: Diet Sodas?
I drink about a can a day. At first they bothered my stomach but now I can handle them. Diet Coke is my only weakness. I open one when I get to work and drink it throughout the day. My doctor said diet coke is ok but my dietician doesnt recommend it. Oh well!!!! Tracey Willoughby

I had my surgery on 11/14. I have lost 76 pounds. I started out at 325. You eat a lot less than I do. I eat a whole protein bar for breakfast or a scrambled egg. For lunch I sometimes eat a regular crunchy taco from Taco Bell. For dinner, just about anything, just in a small portion. I really don't restrict myself except on the sugar intake. I don't eat anything fried. I only lost 9 pounds over the last month. I don't walk and exercise as much as I was. I blame my slow weight loss on lack of exercise but I am still very happy with myself and my weight loss. Hang in there.... Tracey Willoughby

Topic: anyone have a scope done?
I am wondering if anyone has had this problem? I am having a hard time getting my food down, i swallow just fine but once it hits my chest i have pain then as it travels down i get pain in the abdomin. I have seen my pcp and my gastric bypass surgeon. In fact i spent 5 days in the hospital while my pcp ran every test known to man trying to figure it out, when all she could come up with was something with my gastric bypass she let me loose. Now i have to have a scope done, my surgeon thinks that the opening to my pouch has gotten smaller and there may be an obstruction or something below that. the scope is done out patient and takes about 5 minutes total after they have gotten you asleep. Has anyone done this or had this issue. Another thing suggested to me (not by a dr) is that after my gallbladder surgery maybe something got messed up. Any feedback on that? I did tell my surgeon about the gallbladder deal. I guess i will know more on Monday Thanks for listening Heidi

Topic: RE: Plateaus suck, Part II
I heard this in two different places (Vogue & Good Morning America) drinking cold water helps you burn calories because you body has to warm up with your metbolizim. (spelling is awful, sorry) And when you hit a plateaus it is because your body has adjusted to your diet and exercise plan so you need to cut back on food and step up your working out. I am not sure how much of it applies to us with wls and somedays i hardly eat anything and i wonder why i am still carrying this icky skin around. Which is also another thing, since we have all lost this weight we are carrying around pounds of flabby skin. Heidi

Other than the latte, you sound just like me. Me...I like the veggy chili YUMMY. My sweet little snack is pudding, SF of course...somes time I toss some Fat Free Sugar Free whipped cream on it...YUMMY. That whipped cream is my addiction...heck freeze it and scoop it out like ice cream! My goal weight is 150 as well. I'm at 209 now (stuck here for the last month) with a loss of 85 lbs I'm in a loose 16 myself...hoping to see a size 8 too once I get to goal!

Hey check out the cooking message board. There are a lot of great recipes there. All of the ones I have tried were wonderful. I eat a lot of refried beans with cheese. I love to make Mexican Fudge 9 inch pie plate round or square (glass is best) 3-4 Tablespoons of salsa 4 eggs 1/2 cup heavy cream 2-3 cups grated cheese... Co Jack is the best Use enough to cover the bottom of the pan, this will be your crust... and I like a thick crust so I use more. Spray pan with pam. Cover bottom of pan with cheese. Mix eggs, cream and salsa and pour over cheese. Bake @ 350 for about 30 mins.. I serve it with sour cream and salsa. You can add all kinds of things to this. Sauteed onions and ham, olives, tomatoes..... Hey I see you had surgery the same day I did.. Yipee I have lost 96 pounds... 290/194 Dianna
