Topic: RE: Anyone taking Effexor ????? I'm relating to other post of anger, etc
My Dr put me on effexor 3 weeks ago. I have taken it before but stopped because of the side effects (no sex drive). Already I can feel the side effects but my anxiety has/had gotten out of control.
My pcp has me open the capsules and swallow the contents as these capsules are extended release.
Im glad to know someone else is on this as I did a search and didnt come op with anything on this med in regard to gastric bypass patients.
congrats on the weightloss.

Effexor, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and Celexa all are antidepressants that have much less affect on the sex drive than other anti-depressants. Nor do they cause weight gain--in fact. Effexor is associated with weight loss in many patients. Paxil causes weight gain and so do all of the old-style antidepressants. If the pills help, take them. Remember they take ten days to two weeks to kick in and can take up to a month to reach full effectiveness.
Depression itself causes decreased sex drive, as does stress, relationship problems, and boredom with the same old sexual routine. Estroven is not any more effective than placebo in research studies but placebo's are better than 50% effective--that is, if you think it's going to help your sex drive, it may very well! A better choice if you want an herbal is DHEAS (dehydroepiandosterone), which is converted by the body into testosterone, the sex drive hormone for both men and women. Ladies, don't take more than 50 mg a day or you may have problems with unwanted hair growth and/or acne.
Hope this helps--no charge.

yup;
i know what you mean. I'm on Paxil and it seems to help. but with other stress in my life right now; I wonder if there should be more. I think this is normal; as before I would turn to chocolate and soda for calming releif. Now with those things gone; I need to find something to replace. it.
and the support group is a nice place to vent.

Way to go girlfriend! I thought that last 3 lbs before 200 would never leave my fancy fanny!!!!! And I am celebrating too because this only just happened to me yesterday.
the good news is that it renewed my interest in not blowing off the gym. I sometimes make excuses not to go, when I know that it is really important to tighten and tone that skin as I am losing weight. The doc said it will help with lessening the need for extensive plastic surgery when I get done. Already, the arms are doing good. I do *not* want the batwings and neither do I want to have surgery to *fix* them. We shall see what happens!
Topic: Plateaus suck, Part II
My plateau lasted for a month - maybe more. It made me crazy, and I was very depressed. Then, yesterday I stepped on the scale and found that seven pounds had just up and vacated, taking me to the 60 lb loss mark.
I did a day or two of creamy foods like yogurt, oatmeal, protein shakes. It seemed to help shrink back up the tiny tummy and I am not about to push that.
And the day or two of creamy foods gets you away from the kitchen and the constant food worry!
*grins big* 40 lbs to the century club!

It seems to be common - and we really are dealing with a lot. I am lucky my son is understanding. I have days of crying jags, days of just outright anger, and then there are days o*******n. It's nearly schizo, isn't it? But the good news is this too, will pass. Things will level off for us.

Hi Shariyun,
This seems to be more common than I thought, I thought it WAS just me. However, I have went to my PCP about it. He wanted me to have lab work done and test my hormones. In addition to what you are feeling, I also have had a major drop in wanting to be intimate with my hubby. (Which is very hard to understand because I am a very affectionate person) I told my doc I love my hubby more than anything but would like to maintain a best friend relationship... okay, we all know - THATS not gonna work!! And believe me the doc told me that too..LOL
I go back on April 20th for my results and if I find out anything that may be helpful, I will definately post to share with everyone... I know it stinks to have these tantrums...
I also take a narcotic since surgery... the bad part is, that is the only time I seem to be able to DEAL....
Keep your head up!!!

Again I say I thought I was all alone, they didn't talk about this in the support groups or when I went to my surgeon. Then all of a sudden one day it hit. Damnittohell! I went to my PCP yesterday and she put me on Effexor as well, I don't care so much about the sex drive just as long as it gets my emotions under control. I have come to far, losing 90 pounds to be miserable and making everyone else in the house life a living hell. So what the heck I will pop my first pill around lunch. Wish me luck.
