Thank you i feel good about it.
As far as how much food. I dont measure in cups but what i do is oz. So if i am making salmon i will make 4 oz and i can eat all that and then also some veggies.
When i eat salad i put 4 oz of chicken in it and i can eat a whole bunch of lettuce with it.
I could never eat a cup of chicken or salmon or any kind of meat I think.
Salad, Veggies, Soup, Chips pretzels etc i can eat a lot more than a cup. I think it matters how it breaks up and goes through.
I can eat a 8 oz protien drink in 20 min no problem. Again its liquid and it goes right through...

That is great that you and hubby did this together. It must be nice to have constant support.

You should feel SO GOOD ABOUT THIS! It is hard for us to make these changes and every step you make in the right direction is a HUGE step for someone who is formerly obese and possibly a food addict (I know I am). What kind of stuff did you make? I'm always looking for healthy food ideas. My husband is a wls pt too and we can both tolerate anything. But I try to make meals as healthy as possible. We are working on not eating out as much anymore, so I'm trying to have things on hand for him at the house.
I like the idea of making portions ahead of time too and storing things in ready to heat and eat containers. How much can you eat in a sitting? My dr says 1-1.5 cups of food after a year. Some days (and some foods) I can't EVEN eat a cup, but most of the time I can probably eat a cup (or so) without a problem. Scares the crap outta me that I'll eventually be able to eat as much as before.

Check out this website and click on CALORIE NEEDS FOR WOMEN 18+. (it's in BLUE) You'll find that you probably aren't eating enough. Then your body goes into starvation mode...etc etc...if I find something that explains the whole starvation mode idea, I'll send it to you. It sounds all wrong, but we need a certain amt of calories to lose wt and too little calories can make you hang on to the wt. Nice to know though huh!

Ok so as we all posted a lot of us are frustrated still trying to lose some more etc ..
I thought I would share with you all what I did today.....
I through out all snack food in my house that I can have in small amounts but dont know when to stop so they are in the garbage now. NO TEMPTATIONS
I went out and baught all good food
Cooked a bunch of stuff made perfect portions.
I dont know why I feel so good about this but I do......

I agree with the other replies this is a life long struggle. I was 336 at time of surgery and now im 185. I feel I should of lost a lot more but I didnt but I also was not following hte rules as i should. Which is ok in the start because your losing anyway but now im on the final stretch and i fight to lose every lbs. I feel like i could eat all day and nothing botheres me either. I feel like a failuer because I didnt lose as much as most people. Then i try to stop and think about where I came from to where I am now and how different I feel. I am not a failure.
We were all overweight for a reason and like myself we have to try not to fall back into our old habits.
I know that is a struggle for me everyday but look how far we came we cant go back. I wont let myself and you shouldnt either. I am right now setting small tiny goals for myself. Like 180 is my next goal I am not looking beyong that.. Then it will be 170 down to hopefully 150. I know this is going to take time but I am determined to get there.
We are all here to support one another WE CAN DO THIS : )

Thanks for getting back to me. Im 5'7 185. I want to be at least 150 and this seams to be where my struggle starts. The weight is not just falling off like it has done in the past.
I am trying to only eat 1200 but i don't know if that is to much. Like you I can probably eat 1600 with out even blinkin and eye but i am trying to control it.
I am just wondering how many I am suppose to be eating so I can get down to 150 : (.
Very frustrated.

So far today, almost 1600. I'm 5'9 and 165 lbs. The night's still young and I'll be awake all night on call....so who knows what else I can cram down my mouth! (Hoping NOT too, but I get worse and worse the later it gets!)
I use fitday.com when I start to feel like I'm getting out of control. (like today with 7 thumbprint cookies throughout the day) And as for protein, I got in enough for today, but I do eat all other types of food, including cookies. Damn cookies...food of the devil! GRR!
How many calories have you had today?

I'm so excited to find someone that is where I am. I'm happy for everyone else, and like to read about all thier success, but its depressing when the scales haven't moved for me since I was 6 months post op. I'm still happy I had it done but very discouraged that I'm no where near my goal. Cat Scans were done and of course they came back normal. Now PCP wants a flex sig to check colon, and he's concerned about elevated Thyroid functions tests. Surgeon still wants me to go to Hemotologist for Iron being low, but I feel fine. I've tried everything, all protein, little protien, no carbs, lots of exercise ( but now it hurts with that pain) I've lost 5lbs since Oct 280/205 RNY 11/04/03 size 28/size 14 Goal 150 Any sugesstions would be greatly appreciated I'll try anything (been looking at diet pills again lately)

Cant give you any advice on the pain. Hope your doc doesnt have to go back in again-yuk! I also had surgery 14 mo ago- Nov. 20 '03, & Ive gone from 285 to 200..only 85 lbs, & I havent been losing in many months. I hope I am not "done" losing, & Ive begun excersise and watching intake. I also need to lose about 60 lbs, so Im interested as well in your question...can we still lose. My 18 mo. mark is coming up in May, & I feel a lot of stress already. I would so like to get down to 130, but at this point if I get to 150 I will be so happy. I just want the scale to start MOVING again, & if anyone has any tips, I would appreciate hearing from you. My question is, why is your doc telling you to slow down on the protein? I would imagine that if you were preparing for a tummy tuck or any surgery, extra protein would be a better choice, since your body will be needing to heal soon. Good luck- we should keep each other posted on the last leg of our journey!
