Topic: I NEED HELP ! ! ! ! !
Hello all, I am 1 year (11/24/03 surgery date) and was wondering how many oz. our pouch is at this time. I went for my 1year follow up with surgeon last night, and was very discouraged. I fell off track approx. 4-5 months ago, went into depression, and just didnt care what I ate or drank. I started at 435 and am down to 308. I have only lost 43% of the excess weight, and surgeon says normally we are supposed to lose 70-80% by 18-24 months. I dont see that happening for me right now. I am back on track now, taking wellbutrin, back to working out, protein shakes and trying to watch what I am eating, and lots of water, water, water! ! ! ! Any helpful hints anyone?????????? Cara

Mark, Yes, I do think it's possible that the you might not be getting the full benefit of your medication. One thing I was told even before surgery was taking meds with a little bit of a citric juice such as orange juice or apple juice helps break down the meds in the stomach before heading into the intestines. The citric acid dissolves things a little better. Be sure to check your meds for warnings on what you can take with them though. I had to do this when I was taking iron tabs when I was anemic. Also, if you feel your PCP isn't aware of how the surgery affects the absorption, talk to your surgeon. He may have other ideas. Good luck! Shelley

Hi Mark, Sure do hope your shoulder heals quickly! And good for you not worrying if your shirt is open. It's funny, I don't worry if my shirts are long enough any more, or if it is always staying pulled down. I love the little things like that, they truly do mean so very much. Like not having to worry if they seat you at a booth or table in a restaurant, or if you'll fit into the chairs in a waiting room. Or sweating all of the time, I don't do that hardly at all, and I live in Florida! ;o) Best wishes, and thanks for your response. Cindy

Topic: High Blood Pressure??
Hi all; after my surgery mt b/p was normal. Until about 2 months ago it started climbing again. My PCP has put me on tenormin and diovan; and the b/p is still around 158/99. Has anyone had a return to high b/p after surgery? Does anyone think the absorbtion could cause the meds to be inefftective? My PCP says the b/p should be lower with the meds. I wonder if the PCP really understands the absorption after surgery? Thanks for listening. mark g

i relate to the bread issue. I just avoid it all the time. I do dump with high sugar items; (candy; ice cream; milk) I find the detour; joy ride; u-turn bars a nice subsititute for the sweets. I still do a protein drink most evey day; and sprinkle a scoop of protein powder on my yoguart for breakfast. I recently had surgery on my shoulder; and now walk around with my arm in a sling and my shirt open. I don't mind it at all. No big tummy hanging out so am feeling more confident. hope all is well.\ mark g.

I do see this as the final chapter in a life long battle. It's a chapter I never believed would ever be written in my book. I am thankful that I had the surgery. It's just taking a little while for my brain to catch up with my body. Thank you for your prayers. Shelley

My practical side is telling me that I deserve this, but my emotional side is battling my practical side...lol. But I do understand what you are saying. One of the girls at work told me that it might help me if I try and help some of the people that are just going in for the surgery, or have just had it. Maybe by being the for them, it will make it easier for me to accept myself. I think she has a great idea. And I am feeling better about it all, even getting rather excited. Thank you! Shelley

Shelley, Bless you! I hope you find some comfort and peace before your surgery. I haven't had my plastics yet, and not sure how to answer that part, but I can tell you that I felt a lot like this the night before my RNY. Did I really want to get rid of that fat person who was my best friend for so long, and she always took care of me. Now, after a year it's been so wonderful accepting the 'new' person. I feel better, and have gotten more confident. I am hoping you have too, and with your plastic surgery you are just enhancing that, and will come to love and accept that person as you did your heavier self... making sense? I'm not always good at putting into words what I am trying to say. If not, just know that I will be thinking of you, and keeping you in my prayers for a speedy and complete healing inside, and out from your surgery. Happy Thanksgiving Too! Cindy
