Topic: RE: No! I haven't lost enough!
I am not going to tell you to stop losing weight when, I want to lose 25 - 30 more lbs myself and my friends are saying from where. That will just put me in the Normal BMI range but I do want to share something with you that I read and learned at the gym.
As we all know muscle weighs more then fat, so if you are very muscular and fit you will not fit into the normal BMI ranges. I asked someone this question and they were very muscular and he said that he would be classified as borderline obese with his BMI rating. So you may want to look into that. Someone suggested to me that I have a body fat testing done to see where I am.
Also some of that weight is the excess skin that just won't go away until it is surgically removed.
Hope this helped, it was just a few things I picked up along the way.
Topic: RE: Survey:your goals reached?
Happy 1 year anniversary to us all! I started at 300 lbs and am now 189 lbs. My goal was to hit he century club at one year. I did that at 8 months. My other goal was to get to 195 so I could take horseback riding lessons....did that. My main goal was to stay healthy and according to my doctor, I am. My next goal is to get to 150 lbs. I'm hoping to hit that in the next three months.
All the best,
Charity
Oh yeah....being able to cross my legs is cool too.
Topic: RE: Head Hunger or Real Hunger
Same here -- no actual hunger yet!
But lately I've been stressed at work and have been experiencing some head hunger at night. It's a battle, but so far I'm winning.
I think the key for me is to lose the stress as quickly as possible.

Topic: RE: Head Hunger or Real Hunger
I have NOT experienced real hunger yet.....I eat because my brain tells me to eat ... you have not eaten yet....or I feel weak and tired....and my body needs energy. NOW, somedays I eat mainly because my head is hungry and I find myself snacking (nuts, seeds) all day. I'm glade I still don't feel real hunger because I think my days balance out....in the way of eating that is
Good luck.

Topic: Head Hunger or Real Hunger
I have a question for the Post ops....How many of you all actually get hungry? And at what stage did this reoccur?
The reason that I am asking is because I have yet to experience hunger which I guess is a good thing.... but I do find myself wanting to eat just because so I guess that is considered Head Hunger. That's when I try to do other things to keep my mind off of food. Sometimes if works and sometimes it don't. If it don't work and I eat I try to do something high in protein which is good for me. How do you all handle your hunger? What snacks do you use to take the hunger edge away?

Wow! That makes a lot of sense. I'm sure my bones are pretty dense and I very muscular legs, especially my calves. Also I'm sure I have 10 to 15 pounds of loose skin. I had my body fat analyzed the other day and it indicated that I had only 19% body fat, which is pretty good. I wear medium shirts and 34 waist pants. I look normal with clothes on. If I didn't have the loose skin, I would totally satisfied.
Thanks!

My surgeon says that those of us who have been morbidly obese for years have much heavier bones than normal people (weight-bearing exercise builds bone, and walking around morbidly obese is weight-bearing exercise!).
I know this is true in my case as my bone density was screened once and my bones were off the top of the scale!
He says that for us, then, a normal, healthy weight would be that which gives us a BMI of 25, which is at the very top of the "normal" range.
Due to the heavy bones, extra skin, and increased muscle mass from exercise, we can look much thinner than what the scale says. So, I think a lot of these people are genuinely concerned that we are moving too far in the other direction.
Ladies, check what size you are wearing. If your clothing size is an 8 or 10, you have reached a normal size. If it is a 12, you are very, very close. If you are lower than that, stop already! You may think you would look good in a size 4, but probably others will not. Guys, not sure what the male equivalent is, but maybe someone else can chime in here....

My number 1 goal is to be under 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary 11/13/04. I was close but reached a plateau and started gaining, but I will try harder I am determined to reach it. I need to lose at least 20 lbs but would be happier if i could lose up to 40 lbs by then to have a little cushion to back up on. So I have a strict 4 weeks ahead of me.
My number 2 goal is to get into a size 10. I don't think I will reach it, but am happy to have gotten to where I am just 2 sizes a way. I guess I could cheat and buy some stretchy pants. LOL
One accomplishment I am proud of is that I am now the lightest person in my family of six when I was the second heaviest before. It is very encouraging to pass up other family members.

[smiles] Our old friends who haven't seen us in awhile are just in awe of us. It goes away and you get to be normal, so give them their moment. They mean well.
The plateaus come and go and drive us crazy, but oh well ~ we will get there eventually!
Good luck
