Another factor about plastic surgery is how log you were MO for. If it is a lifelong problem vs after childbirth or only 5 - 10 years. The chances of the skin returning to normal is greater. It has had less time to remain stretched. But I do agree that it does depend on yourself.

4749 + my 103 = 4852 I started at 305 lbs. Had my surgery 11/12/2003 and am currently at 202 lbs. My nine month check-up is Wednesday and I AM going to be under 200. I have gone from a tight 28 to a comfortable 14/16. It's so amazing to see these figures (pun intended) add up. Congratulations, everyone! ~Tara 305/202

Young people and lightweights may neither need nor want any tweaking. Technically, very few of us probably NEED plastic surgery--unless your pannis hangs so low it obstructs your walking you can live with it--there are ways to deal with rashes if they become a problem. Those of us over 40 don't have the same degree of elasticity to our skin and no matter how much we work out or how much water we drink we are going to have some sagging of loose skin, especially we the formerly super-morbidly obese. How much work to have done (TT, breast lift, arms, thighs, upper body lift) will depend on individual preferences and pocketbooks. I want to have a TT and breast lift but I can live with my arms and thighs. The upper body lift gives great results but it is horrendously expensive, extremely invasive, and has a very long recovery time. Carolyn DS 11/03/03 317/184

My surgeon has a huge list of things he checks at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, and then annually for life. B-12 is on the list but no special supplements unless needed. Carolyn DS 11/03/03 317/184

I was wondering the same thing. I have almost reached my goal weight of 145 and I have no loose skin or things of that sort. My DR said that because I work out every day at the gym and the fact that I'm still fairly young my skin has great elasticity. So I don't think I will need any PS. Now- do I WANT plastic surgery- that is a different question alotgether! I need some breasts back! These B's are for the BIRDS! Hope this helps! I know every body is different and responds to nature and the WLS differently. Best wishes! Celeste 303/165/145 goal

I have been taking B-12 pills under the tongue since surgery. I get them at Trader Joes they are under $10 for 100 pills. The dissolve instantly and since my blood tests I seem to be doing fine according to my PCP and surgeon. Darlene 309/232/???

Yes, the DS is a whole different procedure--you can get info on it elsewhere on this site if you are curious--basically it allows normal meals after the first few weeks but has a much greater malabsorptive component. The weight loss is better and there is virtually no risk of regaining weight as well. Only problem is that not as many surgeons do it and not as many insurance companies pay for it. Carolyn
