Hi all-
I am a new member of OH and a fairly new member of the state of Colorado. I am looking for a PCP for the family and one who is supportive of the WLS journey. I have waited over 10 yrs to have insurance that doesn't exclude surgery and now that I am so close..I feel stuck on what to do. I live around the Canon City area so any advice on meetings and hospitals would be great. I look forward to meeting my fellow Colorado friends.

I have recently moved to Denver from Minnesota. I had gastric bypass surgery 3 1/2 years ago, doing very well! I am looking for a support group I can attend near Denver! Thanx

Do not have your pcp try to get your insurance approval. Chances are it will go into denial. What I'd recommend is get the appointment with the surgeon and let them work with the insurance company to get your approval. I even heard that if the pcp puts in a referral it can cause an issue. I See your Dr. is with CSSA - have Jody tell you what needs to be done for insurance reasons. Typically if your need your pcp's help its for the 6mos of doctor supervised diet - going tot he pcp each month to have recorded weight and diet. Good luck

Hi there! yes we do still have our meetings at St Mary cowin. The dates are on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:30 pm until 8 pm. Please fell most welcome to join us there.
You tracking for 6 months will not be accepted by an insurance company. What has to happen is you have to do a 6 month supervised weight loss regimine with your PCP. There are very specific things that they must note at each appt. Fran or Dr fedoraks nurse can give you this list of things, and you need to make the list out and ask your pcp to attach it to the front of your chart so they are sure to document EVERYTHING properly, or it will not be acepted by the insurance company. Once you go to your 5th visit with your PCP, you can then begin the process with Dr. Fedoraks office, and they will walk you through the rest of the process.

My name is Elke. I am 41 and live in Co. Springs/Pueblo. I was wondering, being that this posting was from Dec. of 09'-do you still hold meetings at s. Mary Corwins? I am juat wondering because I need some help with knowing how to begin the whole tracking of the weight loss for 6 months, what my doctor will need to send my ins. company, etc. Can you please let me know?
I am not on here too much, but I will keep an eye out incase you respond. If you want, you can email me directly, my address is [email protected]. I had started to pursue this a few yrs. back-actually had met with Dr. Fedorak (sp.) and Fran at Penrose, but I was denied through my insurance. And I am just lost on how to go about providing them what they need. I tracked my daily intake for 6 months, calories, exercise, etc. and they denied me. Long story short-I fell in love and got married since then and we are trying to get pregnant. If that doesn't happen within a yr., I would like to be documenting what they will need, I just need help on how to go about that.

Please help! I am trying to find a local primary care physician in Co. Springs that knows what to do for their patients to help them get approved for WLS through their Insurance carrier!!
My doctor said that she would just supply the insurance company my weight history and medical records. I have high blood sugar, gerd and pain in my joints, but no diabetes, etc. My doc thinks that my ins. may not approve me because my conditions are not serious enough. I am 5'7" and 280 lbs. Also, I am 41 and am having a hard time just doing normal things like cleaning the bath tub! If there is anyone out there that would be able to recommend a PCP that cares and understands what people go through trying to lose weight and fight the insurance companies, I would welcome any information you could send my way!!

If you call 303-280-0900 (Denver Bariatrics) they have other support groups all over Denver and there just may be a group you can attend on the night that you need.
My group only meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.

Do you have meetings other than Thursday? I work in Colorado and I'm in town Monday - Thursday (but leave for the airport at 1pm). I'm looking for a support group to attend while here in the Denver area.
