Hi Angie, I'm Julie. I moved to Nampa almost a year ago after fifteen years in Portland OR. I had a biliopancreatic diversion with Dr. Emma Patterson three years ago this week! I've found Nampa to be a delightful place to live, it's not as rural as I thought it might be, and the people are friendly. If they'd build us a good bookstore (ala Borders or such) and a Target, I'd probably never have to go to Boise again! LOL Sorry I can't provide any doctor info, I hear there's a good bariatric surgeon in Boise, but because he doesn't do the BPD (which is an older procedure that removes 2/3 of the stomach and shortens the common channel- therefore I have no pouch and do not dump) he wasn't willing to take me on as a patient unless it was a bariatric emergency. When you get settled, I'd certainly love to maybe meet up with you for coffee and to chat. I wish you a safe move and offer you a welcome to the Treasure Valley! ~Julie Lap BPD no DS 6/3/02 394/229/???

Hi Sally and Angie, We better meet up gals, this is destiny, don't you think so?? Hey Angie what part of Nampa will you be moving to, do you know? I live on the west side of town ... close to Edward's Theater and K-Mart etc. I'm giving you my "other" email address .... so please email me when you are 'Here" ok? It's [email protected]. Then I can give you my home phone. It's unlisted so I can't give it on here, but I will if you email me at scrappergal. OK? by the way Sally, I spelled the doctors name wrong ... it's Dr. Cahn not Kahn. He is in Meridian so it's even closer for you. My knee surgeon recommended him, but I don't have high hopes of getting my surgery approved. I haven't given up hopes yet though. Well, we are off to the mountains in the morning. I can hardly wait. I'll be up there until shortly before the 16 of June when I have my knee replaced. I'll chat with you all later. Angie, I see you're from Sacramento? What part? My daughter lives in Sacramento on Coso Court. I would love to go visit her there. She's the one with 9 kids. Dianna

Angie, I will be in our new home around June 26th. We're in a subdivision called Celestial Village near the corner of Star Rd. & State St. I would enjoy meeting up with you. We are moving from El Cajon, which is in the San Diego County. If you'ld like, I'll email you when we're settled. Sally

Hello my friends!! My name is Angie and I will be moving to Nampa in a few weeks.. I would LOVE to meet other WLS people in Idaho. I am almost a year out and have lost 150 lbs. I really think it's important to keep in touch with people who had wls, or are going to... I also need to find a dr. up there that will do follow up care with me... I am a teacher and will hopefully start my new insurance in September! Can't wait to hear from you!! Angie

Topic: What do you want at OH events?
Hi everyone -
I just was sent a great idea from Red Haired Girl and I had to thank her in front of all of you -
Here is part of the e-mail:

" She moves with the insouciance of someone who has always been 120 pounds, except when she stands up, when she looks a bit as if she's been fired from a slingshot. ("It's like, whoa-I'm used to going for the big lunge.")

This made me wonder if at your OH events do you ever do breakout sessions on movement. Not exercise. But movement. Teaching us how to move gracefully. It is something that many people never even think about. I do not see it discussed on the boards. With all of the changes ones body goes through after losing hundreds of pounds one probably does not have to stand up or sit down, walk or even gesture in the same manner as one did when heavy. One would probably be physically a little bit better abled to do it with more grace. If one knew how. Just a thought.

Red Haired

I thought that was a perfect class topic.
So here I am thinking - I am sure all of you have wonderful ideas out there - I would love to hear them - So I am asking the question -
What do YOU want to see at the ObesityHelp events?
We are looking at many things and would like your opinions to count in, as we are going to make these events bigger and better and what our members want to see, hear and do.
So the floor is open and I am listening...
This is your time to let us know - what you would like....

Thanks for taking the time to help us all grow stronger and better.
We are a family here and I need my brothers and sisters to help me with some fresh ideas.

If you would prefer to e-mail me:

Come to the WASHINGTON state OH convention and watch me stutter and shake in my shoes on a Q&A panel Sept. 10th. There are so many here at OH I'd love to meet, so I hope a lot of you can make it! Thanks to Monica for asking me to participate. I'm truly humbled and honored - and scared to death For more info: http://www.obesityhelpevents.com/september2005-washington.html Hugs, Toots

Sally, Star is a cute little town just a bit west of where I live. I'm in Nampa ID. I'd say your best bet is Dr. Kahn in Boise as he does mostly lap. But Dr. Christian Oakley is also in Boise and terrific ... he does all types. I'm hoping he can do mine someday. You'll have to let me know when you get to Star so we can get acquainted. I'm into scrapbooking and camping over the summer break. I work at Boise State University during the regular school months and love my summers off. Good luck on your move here. Dianna

Deby, Star is about 5 miles west of Eagle. Eagle is just north of Meridian, which is just west of Boise. So, I'm about 25 miles north west of Boise. Do you know where that is? I know how nervous you must be right now. I sure was. The day of my surgery, I had this strange clamness about me. I knew this was the right thing to do, and I was ready to go!! Everything went as smooth as I could have hoped for. To this day, I've never vomited or been queasy, but... I followed my DR. orders to a T. Good luck, you'll do great. Sally
