Moving to Kansas, Illinois
Hi all,
I am moving to rural Illinois from the DFW area and I mean rural..cornfield city. My husband and I have farmland there and an old farmhouse. We are taking a huge step of faith with this project. I would appreciate any and all prayers as we make our journey. I also have a praise to report. My husband has been battling with metastatic melanoma over a recent return for the past 2 years but, he has gotten a clean bill of health they took out his medi port as he is no longer getting any interlukien treatment. he will ust have to continue diligently with testing and followups as melanoma is a stinker in how it likes to rear its ugly head. We both have our respective health challenges so that is why we decided to move to an area where something is paid for.
I hope to have internet via satellite to keep in touch with making new Illinois friends. If anyone lives in the Central Illinios area or knows of a group please let me know. I will be living in Kansas, Illinois.
I am down a total of 70 pounds and so thankful I had this done. My doctor is in Wichita Falls, Texas. I plan to try and continue to see him for follow ups but, if anyone knows of someone that is good please let me know. I know it is important to keep up with your labs.
It has been a tough road. My arthritis of course didn't leave with my fat but, I know in time my functional ability will improve. I am putting off a knee replacement as long as I can.
Take care and best to you all with your respective journey,
Karen

Hi, I'm from the Peoria area. I havn't any idea where Kansas, Il is. I actually had my lap-band up in Downers Grove, so I attend group meetings up there. Yes its 3 hours there and with the gas prices I might not be able to go up once a month. With the cost of staying the night and the gas prices together it cost about $200. each month. I f your in this area check with Peoria Surgical group, thats who does the majority of bariatric surgery in the area. They might be able to refer you to a group meeting. Welcome to central Illinois. Happy to hear DH is doing better too. God bless you on your move!
I also live with the corn! Its wonderful if you like quiet, and no nosey neighbors!

Welcome to the IL board. I see from the map that you are a little SE of the IL Amish country and near Charleston and Mattoon and the size of your town is typical for farming country. It is a real nice area down there and my husband and I every once in a while will come down there and just drive the country roads in Amish country.
Thank you for giving us a heads up on both you and your DH's health issues so we can keep you in our thoughs and prayers. How long of a drive is it for you to go for follow ups with your WLS doc? Wouldn't St Louis or Springfield be a little closer for you to go to? You can find a doc on www.asbs.org that takes patients of another doctor. There are also doctors in the Chgo area that will take on patients from another doctor, mine is one of them. That is is you want to drive this far north.
Take care of yourself and pop onto the board from time to time. We welcome new faces and are fairly active. This weekend is slow due to the holiday.

thanks for the info...i know at some point i may have to look into finding a doctor that is closer. i want to see mine as long as it works out. I will plan my trips around seeing my family that is still in Texas. But, over time and with the rising gas prices it might not always be feasible. appreciate your thoughts.
have a good week, karen

Hi, I am about an hour from there from what I could tell on google. I would say that you will find a support group in mattoon or charleston related to Carla Clinic in Champaigne. You will find that is probable your nearest dr. Dr. Oliphant is a great man. You will like him. PM me if you want and I will get you his number. Hugs and prayers and good luck. Congratulations on your husband clean bill of health. good luck
