Hello & happy Monday........I need advice...
Hi there. I am new to this board and haven't posted much.
I was wondering if anyone has any information about Dr. Albert F. Gilman, M.D., F.A.C.S. in Decatur, IL.
I have the page from the DMH physician listing ( http://www.dmhhs.com/physicians/viewProfile.asp?id=465) and I once found some stuff about him when he was in NC but I can't even find that again and I can't really find too much else on him.
Has anyone used him or know of anyone who has?
From what I can tell he is still fairly new at this type of surgery and the hospital (http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+hospital+ detail+Decatur+Memorial+Hospital+fls.html) that he uses is too. BUT this doesn't necessrily make them a poor choice and everyone had to start somewhere right?
I have heard your surgeon should be a member of the ASBS but I don't see that he is.
Of course I don't want to drive any further than I have to and he is about 3 hours away but I also want to go somewhere that I can feel safe and confident that I will be ok.
I do have IL medicaid so that makes it harder but I know it is covered. I called Medicaid and the man I spoke with didn't have a clue about how to help me with the information I needed. I just wanted to know a list of surgeons they work with but this man said he didn't see anyone called a bariatric surgeon and I should just have my doctor call. He was older so he may have just been confused but DANG I would think he would have known who to tell me to talk to at least.
So I am calling back and trying again...................in the meantime I do have a consult with Dr. Gilman on Halloween. I am looking forward to it as it is at least a step in the right direction but I still want to know more and or any comments anyone has about him.
Thanks a bunch you guys!
Have a great week.

Angie, I don't know your Dr. but wanted to wish you luck . I know it can be very frustrating to get a dr and especially one that accepts medicaid. My doctor is 2 hours from me, so I can understand why you really don't want to drive any farther then you really need to.

Hi again! Just an update..........the doctors office called me today out of the blue. The lady wanted me to know about the psych eval and that medicaid won't pay for it. I told her I knew this and was trying to get it done locally if that was ok. She said it was and I called the office and I am getting in tomorrow. It does cost $300 of which I don't have but my dad is going to loan it to me.
While I am in my home town I am getting copies of tests I have had done etc. to take with me on the 31s. I know I will have to have a sleep study but the hospital here in town will do that and then I will have to have a consult with the dietician at their office so I will have to have one more trip it looks like unless I can get that done on the 31st as well.
The lady said that once I get my paperwork all in ( and I should have it relatively quickly too ) that it would take 30 days or less to get approval. So I am hoping that I may get a date somewhere the first of December. That would be an awesome Christmas present!!!
Still if anyone has any input I would sure love it!!
Thanks again,
Angie
