I would strongly urge you to try to revise to a sleeve, RNY or DS weight loss surgery. As long as you have a band you will continue to gain weight. Does it cause voimiting or reflux(heartburn)? Just the fact that you are unable to lose weight with it is cause for a revision to a different surgery.
The band has a 60% failure rate and most of us have had ours removed, some have had a different surgery and some like myself have simply had it removed because we are unable to have another surgery for one reason or another. It is very common for the band to slip or erode into the stomach after a few years. They might cover a rewvision where they won't cover fills because many insurance co.s will no longer cover the lap band because of the high failure rate. Keep trying don't give up!
True.
It is actually 60% of bands are removed in the first 2-6 years. The stats are higher after that.
I JUST RECEIVED a call from my insurance company that ..... She isn't sure what happen or why, but her boss just called her and told her I was approved for my revision surgery and I don't have to wait for the council meeting on May 24.
I DO KNOW what happen .... They were denying me for bogus reasons and I'm desperate and tired of playing their games and jumping through hoops so I called the UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF LABOR !!! They got involved and contacted my insurance company. The department of labor got on their butts !!!
Anyways .... This band is coming out May 9 th !!!!!! Woohoo thank you for all of the love and support on this board, and I'll be checking in on the revision board as well!
Congrats!!!!

I had my band in 2006, had two babies after and did it both ways. I definitely gained more weight when I did not have any fluid than when I did. The thing to remember is that you should toss all your "norms" out the window. Not sure if you are like me but I am very aware of what I can eat, when I can eat, and overall how my band reacts to timing and different foods so I dont get sick very often.
When I was pregnant I could eat more (muscle are relaxed, part of pregnancy) then after I gave birth with all the stress on the body my restriction was more intense.
I took a normal prenatal my doctor gave me once and the other time I got one over the counter. I try to get a smaller one, I had to take 3 but it was worth it.
I lost the weight after but it took work to get my mind back in the game.
Good luck!!

I had a twin pregnancy and never loosened my band . I never had any issues from the pregnancy . I do have lapband complications now and am having a revision to sleeve but it has nothing to do with pregnancy . I gained 24 lbs and lost it all within a few weeks
Hi, you need to be seen yearly to calibrate how much fluid is in your band. You do lose a little fluid over time. Get some fluid put in your band. Go back to your surgeon in a couple of weeks. Pull the fluid and if there is a lot gone, you might have a leak. It happens fairly frequently. Mona

Hi There!
I am 31 and recently married. I had the Lab Band put in on Halloween of 2008 by Dr Braverman in Newport Beach, CA. I don't want any hating on me here, but I worked my ass off (and still do) to loose loose weight despite having PCOS and all of the weird issues relate to it. I went from a size 24 to a size 4. Fast forward to today and I don't have any of the PCOS-related issues, I still work hard on my weight loss journey, but now that I'm married, I'm starting to think about having children in the near future and I want to hear from any ladies who have had the Band and then subsequently had children. Did you loosen the band? Leave it as it? What brand prenatal vitamins did you take? OR were you not able to have children at all after the Band?
Looking forward to hearing from you all! (Please no Band bashing!) :)
I was banded in 2006 - I'm in the process of scheduling my revision now. Slip, esophageal dilation and severe reflux. My insurance wouldn't cover this even if I were dying.
I'm nervous about the revision to RNY, but excited at getting a second chance at this.
This doesn't make any sense. If you had 7 ccs of saline in the band that's placed around the outside of your stomach ...... and food or no food got stuck in your stomach , you'd still have the same amount of saline . I'd get another opinion. Did he add any saline to your 4.5 that you can go back after a certain time passes and have it rechecked ? You could have just a tiny pinhole leak I would think ....
So I just wanted to update...In July of last year (2015) I had the port replaced because my doctor assumed that was where the leak was. Well I still didn't have restriction. By December of 2015 another doctor finally concluded there must be a leak but they could not see it under xray.
In March of 2016 I had the band removed and a revision surgery to a gastric sleeve. So far all is good. It's like have a full time band again!
Trust your gut! It took me a year of saying it wasn't working to finally get some answers.

I don't have a band but it sounds odd to me. If you had 7ccs in there and the Dr only found 4.5cc the rest must have gone somewhere. It can't evaporate in a sealed band. Plus how would air get in to the band again a sealed system. If I am reading this right I'd think about a second opinion. I hope someone with a band comes along and can give you some suggestions for their knowledge.
