I am on same waitlist and will have a longer wait time then the lovely lady in the article because at this time I am a "healthy" fat chick with no co-morbidities. What really burns my butt is the comments, just eat less and exercise more. Really I never thought of that. I sure am glad some a$$hat felt the need to share the secret to weightloss.

The situation in NS is deplorable with respect to healthcare, but the continued fat bashing is what kills my faith in fellow Canadians.

Topic: RE: mexico
I have researched Mexico quite extensively and out of all Dr. Alvarez seems to be the best.  He price is 8900 US.  This includes hospital, surgery, any complications if any, medication, hotel and a driver to take you to the hospital and back.  Your trip away would be 5 days 4 nights.  The price does not include air fare.  A round trip costs about 600 from Halifax.  You have a few layovers but that is expected if you want the cheaper flight.

There are other doctors in Mexico and most are quite cheaper (4800 - 7000) There are agency's out there as well that work with certain doctors in Mexico as well.  Travel for care is one of them.  The only thing here, when I asked them if the price includes complications, they told me it does not.  So you would have to purchase additional insurance for this.

Out of all of the doctors I have researched, it would have been Dr. Alvarez I would have gone to.  Unfortunately I will not be getting the surgery in Mexico, because I was not eligible for funding.  But if you have the funds to go, Dr. Alvarez in my opinion would be the way to go.

Hope this helps and all the best.

Debbie

Oh, one more thing, you can check out Dr. Alvarez on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bozikPD1l0

Unfortunately it will probably not get the ball rolling, but it might make them move her case up, who knows.  One point that should be made, that I see some have commented on her site weightymatters is that someone recommend she pay for it, hey I am ready to go for my surgery and I will have to pay for it, they are pushing us out of the province to get it done and my main concern is that they don't want to have to take care of you if you run into complications.  I don't think they can really refuse if you show up in emergency.  But really my point is, we do feel ourselves as being a priority, *****ally knows what the clinic in Halifax is really doing, are they pushing up people that "know" someone in the office?  Could I get in any faster if I paid them some cash that I would be spending by going away to have the procedure done?  Heck I would love to have the surgery here but I am left with no choice and have to go to Mexico.
