On May 15th my first visit w/ Dr. Walton. He told me that in order to have surgery I would have to lose 100 lbs. Let me tell you, It sucks to hear your Doctor say, Girl - Your to fat for fat surgery. Okay, Okay, He didn't exactly say it that way. He has impecable bedside manner but thats beside the point. Uh, back to me. So I was saying. On May 15th I started the journey toward weight loss surgery. Since that day I have lost 43lbs. I know that is a good number and I know that is rather quickly.. I also know I really have no reason to complain but for the last two weeks I have just lost 2lbs each time. I know there comes a time when your weight loss slows down... but already. Ack. I have so much to lose I would think it would slow down a little further down the road. My plan is to have the surgery on Christmas Break (I am a teacher) but if I continue to lost only 2lbs a week that will only ammount to 86lbs therefore not reaching my weight loss requirement. I am following the AGGRESSIVE WEIGHT LOSS PLAN to a tee. I am up to my eye balls in protien. I basically chase food all day. It just sucks to be doing the same thing I was doing and not losing the same ammount of weight!! Any advice for me, besides suck it up? : ) Oh, I should also add that I am exercising atleast 30 minutes a day 5 or 6 days a week too... Becky

Is there a reason that he gave you 100lbs to loose?  I know my surgeon will only do surgery on people who weigh 450 or less.  100 lbs seems super agressive to me, if I could loose that much weight on my own I don't think I would be looking at having the surgery (but then again I'm a light weight).  Are you on any medication to help with the weight loss or are you doing it through diet and exercise only?

I am not over 450lbs and I am not taking any medications. I am on the aggressive weight loss program put together by  the nuts. @ weight wise.  I was disappointed when I was told that I had to lose that much weight but it never made me doubt having the surgery. I know the surgery will be a tool to help me become and stay successful. With hard work and dedication I will lose the 100 (only 60 now) pounds but oh, there will be griping. lol. Becky

Girl, don't worry too much about the slowing down. It's your body's natural reaction to losing weight. It's used to being the heavier weight, and when you try to change that, it basically fights back and says uh huh, I'm not going down, I want to go back where I was. I know, the body is stupid sometimes, but hey, it let you lose 43 #s without giving you any hassle. Be proud of the 43 #s and just keep up what you are doing, don't change a thing, and things will get back on the course you are meant to be on. It could also be just some major water retention, which normally goes away. WTG on the 43# so far!!!!

Becky, 100 lbs does also sound like a lot of weight to have to lose to me, but then again, I'm just a WLS patient and each surgeon has their own way of doing things.  Congrats and huge kudos on the 43 pounds you have lost so far!!  I think you should just keep going with the way you are doing things now...  Your body will catch up with you and start losing again~ it just needs time to regroup itself.  I think you're doing wonderful~ 43 lbs since May is nothing to sneeze at, girl!  BTW~ totally off topic, but I admire you for being a teacher~  awesome job!  Takes a person with a lot of heart and dedication.   If you need anything, though, don't hesitate to PM me...  I'll do my best to offer my 4 year post op knowledge (yeah right haha).  Do you track your intake on thedailyplate?  Anything that makes you keep accountability?  It helps a lot on holding you accountable for what you take in everyday and you can even track your protein drinks.  Ok I'll quit writing a novel now... have a great day!

You can do this.  I am also a patient of Dr. Walton...he is the best.  He wants EVERYTHING to be safe and you've come so far so fast!!!!  Hang in there and keep your eye on the prize...  It could be that if he sees your progress that number "might" change.  The doctors and staff at WW KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING even though it might seem unreasonable to us.  I thought the same thing...if I could loose the weight on my own I wouldn't be here but with their nut help and the agressive diet my pre-op was gone in no time.  You have one thing on your side and that is youth.  YOU CAN DO THIS!!!  Congrats on the 43 lb loss so far!!  That's awesome in only 2 months.  Debbie

This is the ride of my life.....what an amazing tool I now have!!!

I think Dr. Walton is cool. I know they want the best for me. My brother had the bypass a few years ago @ another facility and he has had nothing but problems. I like the way things are done at WW and I have something to compare it with. It is a first class facilty. Thanks for the kind words! Becky

Becky ~ you ROCK!!!  43# is a lot in 2 months (actually not even 2 whole months).  Just keep doing what you're doing.  Your body will let go of the weight after a time.  It's just revolting right this minute, but it will not last.  Keep the faith & we'll be here in the wings when you need us!
