OMG I need HELP!!!
Last night I went to bed feeling a familiar tickle in my throat. This morning I woke up to a stuffy nose and that same tickle. I am getting my infamous May cold with 10 days before my long awaited surgery.
What can I do knowing I can't take any drugs or alcohol? I am panicking as I have heard that they can cancel your surgery if you have a cold on the day of surgery?
Please I am desperate to try anything or am I SOL?

My suggestion is lots of water, decaf tea and tons of rest. I think you should be OK with an extra couple vitamin C for a few days since you are 10 days pre op yet. Don't panic you should be fine. I wouldn't sound the alarm bells yet. If you are still not better or getting worse by the end of the week, then I would worry..
Take care and sleep lots if you can,
Take care and sleep lots if you can,
gargle with sal****er
tons and tons of water with lemons
green tea
take some extra zinc, they have SF lozenges..zinc is amazing for the throat
take a bunch of vit.C like 2000 -2500mg
take a really long long hot bath or shower..uber hot to bake it
can you have broth, if so, chop some garlic and ginger into it and warm it on the stove
funny, it happens to so many ppl right before surgery, myself included
it will be allright..it will be all good..no worries:-)

A cold is generally not something they will cancel your surgery for. If it gets beyond that like an infection, then yes they might. Just the sniffles, generally no.
Keep taking your liquids, washing your hands and hang in there :) Keep up your vitamins too :)
Could also be sinus type things.

Hi Tata
Don't panic, that may make things worse lol
Funny, but I have been on this board for over 6 years and I have heard this so much. It must be a stress thing or something. Everyone seems to get a cold right before surgery, or feel like they are getting one anyway.
Get in lots of fluids
You can get stuff at the drug store that are ok to take, natural kind of things.
You will be fine.
I think as long as it is not in your chest they will still do surgery
Keep us posted
The worst that could happen is that surgery would be put off a week or two, I know that is not ideal, but worst case scenario it's not that bad
Take care
Hugs

I had to have by surgery at St. Joe's cancelled because of a really bad virus. Be careful not to take any antibiotics unless they are unavoidable. Often times, it is that which will have them cancel you surg. date, because of the interections with anesthetic or other drugs you might nees. I was put on Prednisone and they told me I had to be off the Prednisone for several weeks before they would operate. If it is contained to upper respiratory, you may be just fine, but if it involves the lower resp. system, that's when there are problems. Get lots of rest and cross your fingers. I would give it another 6-7 days or so, and if it is not going away then you'll have to call and give them the heads up. Good luck.
