Oral Hygiene and Optifast
I went for a dental cleaning this week. I have a great hygienist, and we laugh a lot.
Just as she starts my cleaning, she stops, grabs some Kleenex and grabs for my tongue. She pulls it out and wipes it down with another Kleenex. WTF? She's never done that before.
Turns out that the Optifast (or any high protein diet/drink) causes halitosis, because it sits on your tongue. She recommended brushing my tongue as well as my teeth. I find this very hard because just the thought of something like that on my tongue makes me gag, but I'm doing it.
So, for all of you on, just starting or getting close to Optifast ... Scrub your Tongue. Save a Hygienist from passing out!

I think everyone is supposed to brush/scrape their tongue anyway - I do, but it certainly does make me gag, each and every time. lol

I always brush my tongue but if you absolutely cannot do it, how about a good long swish of some powerful mouthwash?
