Okay you won't hear me say this often so this is a rare moment.  I'd stick to the pre made ones or the little packets of the Bovril ones.  This is one time I pick convenience over homemade. I love the Bovril packets in both beef and chicken.  If you aren't much of a soup eater then all your homemade broth could go to waste so stick to easy.

My heart!  I'm in shock Tracey!!!  I thought you would have all sorts of intricate recipes that I would make sad attempts at following!  LOL

I might try making a big chicken one that Karen mentioned and freeze it in individual sizes and then get the Bovril packets.  I've never tried those, but will give them a shot.  If they are in a packet even "I" shouldn't be able to screw that up right?  LOL

I don't plan on drinking tons of broth during optifast, but for the times I'm craving something, I think broth will be my go-to food.

Thanks

Laura

I knew my comment would shock some.  LOL  I make lots of broth but we are soup eaters so it's never going to waste.  While on Opti, you really have to watch the calories and carbs.  If you use things like carrots that are high in sugar naturally, your broth could keep you out of ketosis.  Don't forget when  you boil the veggies, the natural sugars end up in the water.  If you are going to make one with chicken then make sure you use things like celery, garlic, onion, fresh herbs and very little else or your broth could be too high carb.  Another thing with homemade, it's hard to get it down to like zero fat or 1 gram of fat like they premade ones are.   I wasn't allowed broth on Opti but I remember the nut saying that those that are allowed it now have to be careful which broth they pick as some are higher carb.  I think the packets are called Knorr's made by Bovril or something like that.  I'm not home to check mine but the beef comes in a little red box and the chicken in a  yellow one and they are packets not cubes.  It's the best powdered broth I have ever tasted and I like it much better than the Campbell's in a box.  If you have a Walmart Superstore they have the Great Value broth and it taste better than Campbell's and about half the price.  I love the beef with tons of black pepper ground in it.

I actually have to agree with you on the packets - they really are good and MUCH better than the cubes.

Laura, when I was on my 3 days of clear fluids...the boxed broths made me sick to my stomach!! so I made my own...I just boiled in water celery, onions, potatoes, and carrots...threw in some spices (your fav's) and strained it....and it was sooooooooo much more tasty than from a box... good luck on your journey...Patti K.

Can u eat consomme when you're on Optifast?  Or post-surgery?  Just wondered and would appreciate any feedback.  Thanks so much for all the sharing that happens here.  I'm for sure going to try out making my own broth...I'm sure it will be better than the store-bought stuff....
