St. Jos and toe polish rules?
They sound lovely but you can't wear them in surgery. Not even clear polish. That's the rules. The nurses check to see if there is anything on your nails when they are prepping you for the OR. Just have them removed instead of having your last fill before surgery. You can have them done again right after surgery, you'd really only be without them for a week or so.
I had my very first pedicure ever before I went to Hamilton - had a beautiful bright orange on my toes - my ugly feet actually looked really nice! At my pre-op the day before, of course they said no polish of any kind on fingers and toes. So now it's 10:00 the night before surgery, hubby has fallen asleep in the hotel, I'm wired up and notice my toes. I did bring polish remover, but I neglected to bring the little cotton pads to use - all I had were q-tips and toilet paper. It took me an hour, half a roll of tp, half a bottle of remover, and 15,000 bad words to get that stuff off, and I didn't even get it all. The moral of the story - get the pedicure w/o the polish if you want your footsies to be pretty, otherwise wait until after.
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
The anesthetist was extremely strict. The one I saw at my pre-op was okay with me leaving my lip ring in (it is... WAS a vertical labret, so nothing stuck out or could get caught), and I couldn't find a plastic spacer anywhere. I almost cried when she told me to take it out, I know, stupid, but I loved that piercing and it hurt like hell getting it done. Sure enough, by the time I was able to focus on anything about five days later, it had already closed up and there is now a lump of scar tissue. I have had tons of operations and they didn't make me take it out, I even told her I would sign a waver of liability, but she said keep the piercing or have the surgery. Ugh.
I did get a pedicure the night before my surgery, but just didn't get any polish, instead got them to do the foot/leg massage longer which was a great way to relax pre op.
