First Unsupportive Comments from Family

Over the past two days, i have received my first negative/unsupportive comments from a family member.

I kindly explained to my aunt that I was obese, that I had medical conditions that were made worst my beng overweight and that i had tried all other methods to lose weight.

Her response was wholly underwhelming and not supportive. I was told to buck up and take care of business. I have heard that so many times I could............. Blame and shame can kiss my big butt

Anyway, I just wanted to vent a bit.....Dave.....

Dave I'm so sorry.   I've really learned that I have to please no one else but myself!  I have to do what's right for me, and not what others think is right.  Good luck on your weight loss journey!!!

I wonder if you had lung cancer from smoking if she would say that you need to buck up and take care of business.  That you shouldn't have started smoking in the first place, etc.

Your aunt may also be from the generation that was told to buck up on a lot of issues so that is her stock answer.  LOL

Good luck Dave.

I hear ya!... I was with my mom yesterday. I thought my mom was part of my support system... yesterday we were in Walmart and she asked if I wanted some bananas and strawberries. I said sure..

she plopped 2 bags of those candy strawberries and bananas.. I was mortified! she knows the process I am trying to go through. she knows how I am changing the eating habits of my family. promptly I took those candys out of the bggy and she got pissy... "well the kids dont need to suffer"  I was so mad!

I know its not like that kind of junk food was a staple before... why she is making an issue of it is beyond me

We don't owe anyone an explanation of our reasons for going through this.  There's nothing like an old aunty - we all have one!!

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

Dave you not alone on this one.  My younger sister told me to put the fork down and maybe that would solve my weight issue. Ask her how that's working for her??

I have just chose not to tell her anything anymore I don't even know if she knows I am having surgery Monday.
