Vitamin Question

Hi, I had my surgery June 27th.  When I got out, I started taking a chewable multivitamin (not with a lot of iron) and when they finished I started trying split tablets (I had been allowed to take split anti-biotics previously).  Before surgery, I didn't have any problems taking pills.  At one point, I tried taking One A Day Women's 50+, but on the second day of those, I was affected by dumping syndrome.  I then found the Equate version of this multi-vit, it's better, but I still have about a half hour of nausea after taking it.  A friend suggested Swiss One 50, but it's timed released and I'm not to take time release pills.

Could someone suggest a high iron multivitamin that they have had no reactions to?  Or let me know if they have tried a lower dose of iron in their multivitamin and took the iron seperately without reaction?  I don't want to go back to chewables as I hate tasting my medicine.

Thanks,
Cathy

Hi there,

No suggestion re. a vitamin as I do the chewable, but I wanted to suggest that you take your multi after eating something if you're not doing that already - I feel awful if I take mine on an empty stomach.

Thanks, I do take mine about 30 minutes after eating.  Thought it wasn't helped by milk, but stopped milk in the morning again without change.

Cathy, I've been using the Life Brand Spectrum Chewables for quite awhile now....they have 18 mg of Iron in them...they often have them on sale, with buying in multiples...good luck..Patti K.

I take a separate Iron pill in themorning when i wake up, on an empty stomach, no ill effects and then i take my Materna at bedtime, again with  no ill effects.

The  materna can be purchased at Walmart, use their generic brand, exactly the same except $7 cheaper.

best of luck.

Thanks, I may try the Materna next.  Just hate having all these pills that don't work for me.  Maybe someday they will, they just don't right now.

Hi.  I also use the Life brand Spectrum 22 chewable from Shopper's Drug Mart. And even though it has 18 mg of iron, I have to take additional iron.  I tried the liquid stuff (how indescribably horrible!) but now take tabs; they're small enough that they don't cause any problems.
