We seem to have a TON of experts here!

I'm getting a tattoo on my finger, to look like a ring (celtic butterfly to signify the weight loss, constant reminder to be mindful and proud of where I've come).

Questions:

How painful is a finger tattoo? (Eep!)
You may not know the answer to this, I have a call into my Dr. - I'm on a low dose of Warfarin - is this going to effect it in any way?

Thanks in advance you tattoo gurus!

K.

I have none but I know when ex hubby got his, they specifically asked about blood thinners.  They wouldn't do it if he was on them.  That was a few years ago now but they said he would bleed more and they would need more ink, more cleaning, etc and no guarantee the tattoo would look right.  Not sure if all artists are that picky but his sure was.

I had asked a tattoo artist before and they said that tats on the finger hurt because to close to the bone and they wear off fast. You need lots of touch ups

Good Luck

Sometimes you just put one foot in front of the other, even if you don't know where you're going.

some tattoo places wont do hand tattoos because they cant be covered easily and tattoos are still not readily accepted in the workplace... with that said I am sure you would be able to talk them into it if you explained the situation

2nd) because its is on the hand it way take longer to heal and need to be touched up because fingers are used often making healing harder

3) because there is little fatty tissue on the finger i assume it would bite a bit

blood thinners... it depends on the amount and if you have clotting issues because of it. some shops may still do it but be more careful and ask more questions. Talk to the artist...

Fingers will hurt close to the bones. The closer to the bone they go the more it hurts. I know when I did mine on my legs I could tell when they were near the ankle bone because it started to hurt more.  The healing would be tricky on the finger since you are suppose to keep it dry as much as possible.  It is hard to say about the Warfarin. some places may do it and others may not. If you do get one the main thing is make sure they open the needles in front of you. If they are already open ask for new needles. They should always be open in front of you. Let me know what happens.

what about inside your wrist? that's a nice spot, and more 'durable' than a finger tattoo.
I agree about the warfarin, more bleeding, tattoo might not 'take' as well

if you have questions about how to tell if a shop is clean, my daughter has lots of answers, i can ask and she'll send me all the things to look for.

inside of the wrist can hurt like a B*TCH...LOL I have one there and the closer you get to the bend of the wrist the more it hurts.

yes, they all hurt, but i'm just think that it'll be more permanent there.

Mine is on the top of my foot - which would be very similar to a finger...right over those bones.  That part hurt like a *****!!  But it was over fast.

I was told that the top of the foot doesn't last as long/needs more touchups because of teh amount of time it spends in the sun.  I'd assume hands would be the same/worse.

But I love that idea!
