question
It would have to be calibrated to the level of pressure you need and you would need to get a mask that fits you (mine particular mask is $200). Otherwise you should be good.
Edited to add that I pay up front for my mask but my insurance benefits through work reimburse me, and also reimbursed me for the money I put out for the machine. It may be worth it to see if your benefits cover the costs as you can always sell the machine when you are finished with it.

HI Deb,
There are ways to calibrate the machine yourself. Google "how to adjust CPAP machines". As long as the doctor gave you a prescription with the recommended starting rate (I think it's 7), you should be able to adjust your friend's machine to work for you. The mask will be an issue though, especially if you are a mouth breather and your friend is not.
Good Luck!
