Xmas Dresses!

I've had this complaint for years ...

Why are all the dresses that come out for the holidays sleeveless!  Or even strapless!  Don't women get cold, too?  Even for little girls, they often don't have any sleeves, or even a jacket to compliment it.  You don't see men wearing a tanktop to a party this time of year (at least, not this side of the border!), so why do we get the privilege!

And now with the batwings taking a firm hold, I really don't want my arms flapping free.

Okay, I feel better now.

I sooo agree with you!!  I've always used a sparkly shawl that my mom gave me to both keep me warm and to cover my upper arms.   We shouldn't have to though.

Beth...I so agree with you...I'm a very practical person, thus it just doesn't seem right to buy a dress for maybe once or twice worn in a season....so I'm opting this year for a really nice pair of black dress pants, and a beautiful grey metallic sweater, with 3/4 length sleeves, a fooler top!!  I bot them the other day in Kingston at the DFX outlet...love that place...oh and did I say size 14's???     Patti K.

The reason you need strapless or sleeveless dresses is to use another fashion accessory, fancy jacket or shawl or something!   You end up spending more $$.

Glad you were able to vent :)

I hate sleeveless shirts, dresses etc.  And strapless is worse, as I have no boobs to speak of.  I agree, Beth, it sucks to have so few dressy options without sleeves to cover the batwings!  And I'm just not girlie enough to wear some sort of fancy jacket or shawl; it's very rare that I even wear a skirt or dress.

I bought a beautiful Jones New York dress ($80 at the consignment shop) for my daughter's wedding recently; black, with 3/4 length sleeves, knee length.  It's gathered under the bust and at the back above the derriere, so it should still fit me for New Year's Eve.  Lucky me!

Strapless or spaghetti strap dresses are even worse if you have larger boobs, because strapless bras are no fun when you're a DDD.  And even then, that's no guarantee that you're going to hold up the dress with your bust.  They slip just as easily over a big bust as a small one, I've found!

I hear you, Beth, and agree completely.  I don't mind sleeveless so much, personally.  I'm fat, therefore my upper arms are fat, and I'm resigned to people seeing that.  I wear sleeveless tops in the summer too.

But I agree that in the winter, you want something warmer to wear!

Formal wear sucks for women in the winter, and sucks for men in the summer.  They make us freeze with scanty tops to dresses in the winter, and they make men suffer in hot suits in the summer.  Darn convention, anyhow!

I got my dress at JC Penny in the U.S.  It was sleeveless, but was beautiful.  I just wore a shawl around myself to help cover up the arms!
